Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I have always had a fondness for Lake Washington. Even though it can be frustrating this time of year I have spent more time there than anywhere else. It is so big and there are so many ways to catch them, so many areas to figure out, (and the tournament factor)that I just can't pry myself away to go elsewhere very often.

What's your favorite lake and why?

Number one is easy "The River" many have mentioned the reasons, but the reality is it has more fishable water, amazing diversity, its on every list in the country for top small mouth fisheries.

The rest are more difficult, I would put them in this order,
2. Potholes, less about the smallie fishing and more about what the dunes offers in largemouth fishing.
3. Banks, as Brian mentioned I just love going there. I put it ahead of Roosevelt only because the resorts are better and more accessible.
4. Roosevelt, there is no better body of water for testing new baits, or if you just want to go out and try to catch a new record number of fish, thats where you go.
5. Silver Lake, its where I got my start and holds a near and dear spot and mid May LM fishing is tough to beat in this state.

Honorable mention, Moses Lake, I have yet to have a big day there but have witnessed some of the best large and small mouth fishing I have seen.

Out of state, well I am expecting El Salto to be my favorite the last week of February '10, but Castaic CA, for its amazing boils of, land locked smelt chasing, Largies. Haven't fished Clear or the Delta but hope to this year.

1. Banks just for the plain ole fact of I love going there. Fishing is always good, numbers are freaking insane and size can be good if you know where to fish. Great place to hang out with friends and family too.
2. Potholes, for basically same reasons Ron stated. I hated Potholes for years but about 5 years ago I finally spent a bunch of time and figured it out. Now it is fun and I always look forward to going there.
3. A few small lakes around my area. We have got multi fish over 7,8 and one 9.5 and one 10.5. We never fished it last year so this should be a good year. I only fish these for a short time and when I have time to play.

A single favorite is hard to pin down, Banks is always a numbers lake. I've done very well on Pot Holes the second time I ever fished it. Had an screaming good time on Moses Lake this last spring. Lake Washington is hit or miss for me. I have really enjoyed Lake Whatcom the two times I've been there. Lastly American Lake is too close to my house and having caught two smallies over 6 lbs on it, I seem to fish it too often.
fo sho! yea im up for it any time.
Washington lakes are great, and with Wallula being down the street....its obviously a great choice for me....but I'm a big fan of Brownlee Reservoir in Idaho. Its a numbers fishery, but there are some big smallmouth there, and some largemouth. The scenery is just about unparalleled. Lots of coves, and rock outcropping type of structure. You can fish it deep around the points or head back into the shallows of the coves and throw some baits higher in the water column. Great place to take younger anglers as the crappy are thick and catfish are plentiful for those who don't want to chase bass. Good family spot, and also a good spot for the hardcore basser who wants to stab some 4+ smallmouth.
my favorite lakes are Flowing and Rosenger in Snohomish county because they are close to home and have some big fish.Ican go there either all day or just a couple hours and use very litte fuel and still have fun with the grandkids isn't that what its all about?
Columbia River in the Tricities and Boardman area would be close firsts for me because of close proximity, vast areas to fish without company, diverse habitat and quality fish. The river can be excellent fishing all day long, even during hot summer days on many days. Potholes number 2, for Largemouth in the brush -but since it it can get really tough at times and numbers aren't usually anything like the river, it gets spot 2. Moses is becoming a favorite because it has such good quality, but it is too small, and too difficult and nasty green during the hot months to be top shelf.
