Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Alright fellas I need yall to critique my game plan to see if I'm on the right track. Gonna be fishing mainly for smallies this weekend. I plan on throwing tubes on the bottom, maybe some jighead grubs, small 2-3 inch swimbaits like Hammerbaits and football head skirted jigs with plastic trailers and maybe try the dropshot thing for the first time. I'm still new to this winter bass fishing thing. BTW will be throwing in 20 feet of water.

What lake?  In most lakes, I would say you need to find deeper water, like 35+ and look for rocks.  Dropshot and Footballs are my go to baits this time of year, like most Hawg Hunters...

just look for a point that drops off from 5' to 20' rapidly and you might accidently catch a fish or 2

Sounds like you are gearing up for a trip out to Samish this weekend! Chad and I are headed out there to find some smallies too

Yeah Joe invited me out on Sunday. When are you and Chad heading out?

Dont know if we will go saturday or sunday, but Im guessing saturday. I will let you know for sure when I find out

Larrick,

Always keep your game plan loose.  A game plan is great but it has to remain flexible, especially for smallmoth in the Winter.  If you are fishing Samish for smallmouth exclusively, be prepared to fish 25 to 55 feet in the Winter.

Also, regarding Aaron's post about looking for rock: This is the easiest bottom to locate with a contact bait or graph, but I have caught a lot of big smallmouth at Lake Samish in the Winter on sand and silt bottoms as well, sometimes adjacent to rock of course.  Good luck.

Good luck out there Larrick , I can tell ya in advance that there is a good chance you guys are gonna be fishing in one spot for most of day .Just like tag and others mentioned be prepared for 30-60ft .. Last time i was there a couple of weeks ago the dropshot and tubes seem to be some good go to baits !

Hwy Dez were u just there with Parnickey?

Larrick,

There are plenty of areas to catch fish on Samish in the winter.  I can think of a handful that produce just as well as the spot Dez is referring to.  Keep in mind that Dez is from Tennessee...that's far from a local.  (Just ribbing ya, Dezzy)

The reason Dez makes this comment is because Parnicky has a love affair with this particular spot....and Valentine's Day is right around the corner.

look here tag , I will fight if it comes down to showing my dedication to parnicky .. umm umm luv me sum parnicky , dont hate , dont hate :-)

Should I be disturbed at all by your comment Dez? Haha j/k!  I think Tag is just jealous he doesn't have one hour of free time to dedicate to a spot let alone an entire day.  Things change when you only have 45 minute windows of time to hit the water.  Yet somehow he still catches in those short windows of time what it takes the rest of us an entire season to catch...so wrong!  Who would spend the time to fish that puddle on the side of I-5 anyways!?  There aren't any bass in there!
