Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I have fished it once, caught some smallies and some Walleye. I want to go fish it this year a lot more, looking for any tips on where to go.

We fished just down river from Lincoln, but I have no idea if closer to Grand Coulee is better, or if up river is better. It sure is a big lake!

I'm no expert on Roosevelt but I can give you what I do know and it will get you some nice fish and a bunch of them. The first thing is what to use. From right now until mid- may use crankbaits, red ones or orange! Hit the points with them and boulder fields. I start from and area that is about 4-5 miles from spring canyon launch. It is where the big first bend in the river is when going up river. Go straight and do not take the bend in the river. Make sure you stick far to the right side of the river before you hit that bend in it. It is very shallow on the right side and it comes way way way out! You will see some large fingers that cut into the river bank. Fish those points and even into the cuts. There are some monster Walleye in there too! I have caught over 30 fish off of just one of those points in a couple of hours.
Then in the summer you can throw a 4 inch lizard on a Carolina rig. Put some chartruse on it too! Also I have heard that spinnerbaits can just kill em there and you catch bigger fish. And the last tip for you is just like any lake in eastern Washington....... TOP WATER BAITS!!!!! From may through sept.
I wish you luck I have fished this lake a few times and in each time I have had a chance to make a state team and this lake kicked me in the butt.
I also am no expert on Lake Roosevelt, but I get to spend a far amount of time on the lake throughout the year. We have a cabin very close to the Lincoln boat launch so I focus most of my time in that area. As far as locations go, the stretch from 7 Bays south to White Rock is what I usually fish because it’s close, but there is definitely better fish up in the Spokane Arm. There is a ton of deep water structure on this lake, so if you can get there when the water is low you can mark those spots on your GPS and really catch em when the water comes back up. I honestly have had my best luck fishing topwaters and jerkbaits in the morning and evening, and plastics can catch em all day. Dropshots, senkos, tubes, and grubs all work great in natural colors...although rumor on the lake is that blue also works great?
Almost forgot to tell you that if you launch from spring canyon, fish a crankbait from the dock all the way out to the point that is on your left side as you are leaving the launch.
From a club tournament years past, the one tip I can give you is fish in the river arms and such, as they usually produce a decent amount of good fish. Also, any boulder field will have fish on it.
