Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

So guys here is the scoop. Saturday April 25 is the date for the Lake Whatcom open, drivers meeting around 5:40. As far as eligability goes besides the obvious, any EFI two stroke purchased before August 2004 or any two stroke that is certified and labeled as meeting 2001 EPA emission standards are compliant. As for the rest of the non four stroke fleet it will be asked that if you want to participate you do so with electric trolling motor. The law does state that in emergency circumstances the two stroke laws do not apply. Borderline Bassin Contenders will not inspect engines and this will be a honor rule as are most of our tournament rules. If you decide to fish with a non compliant motor you may be asked to pay a hefty fine by one of our local Sheriff Deputies. For me I will use my trusty trolling motor and hope for no huricanes. Sorry to all who have enjoyed this tournament in the past, hopefully within a couple years we can all become compliant again. Any questions please post or contact me at 360-441-1265

I will be there! See ya next Saturday Brandon!
Good Luck men.. This by far ranks at the top of my lists as far as one of the funnest tournaments I have ever fished. When you can't crack the top 5 without over 17.5 pounds you know your at the right spot!
Yeah, Whatcom is awesome! Im thinking it is more than a coincidence that all of these lakes with Kokanee grow such big smallmouth..Whatcom, Dworshak, Pardee...I like to think that the Kokanee is to growing big smallmouth, what the Rainbow Trout is to growing giant Largemouth. A high protein, spine free meal that roams open water in large schools and is a more compact meal than a trout most of the time...perfect for growing fat smallies!

Smallmouth don't eat kokanee, David. Sorry to burst your bubble. They eat aquatic insects and small crustaceans. Chelan, Stevens and Goodwin have kokanee as well and I don't see any big smallmouth being caught out of those lakes.

Your right Tag! Im slamming my head into my desk about this one! Of course smallies don't eat Kokanee! Every "book" you ever read says smallies love rocks and crawfish! This is going on my list of top 5 things smallies hate...right under current! Back to the old days of only throwing tubes and grubs I guess.

Now if I could only find some baits that mimick kokanee?

You mean smallmouth do eat Kokanee! after all these years at Riffe when I see them blasting the surface I thought they were just playing with them not eating them. I guess I should try a Kokanee Pattern Tag would you be able to help me with this?
