Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I'm heading out to Long Lake just outside Spokane later this month, I heard you can find both quality smallmouth and largemouth there? Since I've never been there I was hoping to gain some knowledge of the lake from you guys.

Thanks,
Joel

Soooo... either no ones has fished it or I'll take the silence as a hint ;)
Joel,

I only fished it one trip, and I got a 5 pound largemouth, a 6 pound smallmouth, and a 2 pound crappie all on a 5 inch Senko from the same spot within minutes of each other. It was during the first week of May a few years ago. I also loaded the boat on smallmouths on both the Senko and dropshot with 6lb test, 3/16 oz QuickDrops and Roboworms. I can't wait to return.

ciao,
Marc
Thanks Marc,
I am really looking forward to fishing that lake. I read they draw it down in January, it would be nice to get on the lake and see what it looks like then.
Thanks Again,
Joel

You are going to hit the lake at a prime time. The fish will be shallow and in prespawn mode; so they should be hungry and cooperative, and somewhat concentrated. Look for good feeding locations, such as where there is main river current next to a current break in shallow water (5 feet deep), such as a dock on a point at a river bend, etc. You should have a great time!

Joel,

I don't know if you have made it over to Spokane yet. I just registered on the site yesterday and saw your post about Long. It's my home water and I fish it a lot during the week between tournaments. I have only been on it once this year...getting ready for Moses Lake Open.... but the crankin bite was retarded. We have had really unstable weather the last week or so and I have no idea how it has fished since I was on it last. There is a decent size tournament the 9th of May so I wouldn't recommend that weekend unless you want to fish it. There is only 1 launch open until Memorial Day weekend. It is really straight up this time of year. LM are up shallow and if the sun shines it is a dock fisherman's paradise. SM are everywhere. I like to crank this time of year but I catch them on fb heads, spinnerbaits, jerk baits, and traps on the flats. You will find the SM and LM together in alot of places especially on the flats. You can send me a message if you want a little more.

Thanks for the info Josh,
My family has property next the the Lincon boat launch on lake roosevelt so I'm in that area quite a bit throughout the year. Due to the fact that it snowed in Spokane the day I rolled into town I decided to fish Moses last week instread, but I plan on getting to Long lake by Memorial day at the lastest. Maybe I'll see ya on the water.

I wish I lived about 2 hours closer to Long Lake, so I could show Potter how to really catch em there. I have done well there in May. Marc was right about the conditions. All the fish I have ever caught there were very healthy. If Potter can catch em.....anyone can !
