Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I'm heading down to the Oregon coast next month for some training. I should have at least two full days to get out and play. I'm taking the family along and was curious if there are any decent bass or panfish lakes in the area of Cannon Beach? and do they have decent shore access? I more than likely will not be pulling my tin can boat.

I know in Seaside there is Cullaby Lake...a friend of mine has caught a few 6#ers there.

As for Cannon Beach, I found some small ponds in town but I couldn't find names for them. Again, if you go into Seaside, you can try out Chapman Ponds...it's down a side road but you can see them from the main strip. They have TONS of standing timber and laydowns. If you need more advice beyond this, let me know and I can ask around. I'm living about an hour from Seaside and have some connections for help.

Get a hold of Roger Luce aka exbassguide. You can probably locate him on ifish.net
If you get a hold of him, it will be well worth your efforts.

Thank you for the info guys, its much appreciated.

Thanks again, just got back. Didn't have any luck but did get to checkout a few lakes. Cullaby looks "bassy"

if that makes any sense. I will have to give it a better shot in the future and with a boat. Its been a few years since I've been back in this area,Cannon Beach was still pretty nice but Seaside looked like a large Walmart parking lot.

Lake Lytle in Rockaway beach can be great, if it gets a little sun this weekend the fish can really turn on.  Its a small lake, but right off 101 about 20-25 minutes south of Cannon Beach.  Always had luck with spinnerbaits and Carolina rigs this early.  Perfect for a small boat, make sure to go up the creek into another little lake.

I drove past it on the way to and from Tillamook. Looked nice but didn't get to stop. Looks like the coast

has several lakes and large ponds, just wish I had more time but will give these lakes another shot on my next trip. I'm wondering if these lakes do fairly well in the colder months compared to others located more inland. I have no proof or evidence to make this claim but I'm wondering with coastal temps being rather mild and typically not reaching a freezing point if the bass might be a little more active. I don't know, its late,I'm tired and rambling

Majority of the coastal lakes in Oregon are typically shallow.  So a slight warm trend can really heat those lakes up quickly.  If your there in the dead of winter, ideally a weather pattern that is stable and preferably on a sunny or mild day you may have good luck.
