Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Fishing as much as I do... I notice everywhere garbage, in the water, on shore, everywhere!  I love going fishing, and when i see all this stuff its just sick that people dont care enough and just let it go.  I would like to start a clean-up day every month where we would hold some sort of cleaning event pick up the trash at lakes/rivers/streams in our areas and make a day of it.... I dont know have a bbq, exchange stories, try to make it fun and know that we are doing some thing great...   Anybody Interested?  I'll be contacting some local sporting good stores in the bellingham area for assistance as well as some local fishing groups. Let me know what you all think,

Jon,

Many clubs perform these types of activities. Clubs affiliated with Federations often have it in their charter to perform some form of a conservation effort. This is a common one.

Are you in a club?

The Club I am in has done this many times.  I scheduled one on Duck lake a couple years ago. We actually made a contest of it.  The combination of most weight and most volume won. (Yes we had a weighin) We did it during our Jack n Jill, and gave out prizes.  I actually got the Mayor of Ocean Shores to agree to have a dumpster at the launch to put the trash in, and he even provided the bags.  Partnering is a good practice, because the cost of landfill alone could get pretty spendy.

I doubt you will find much disagreement in the fishing community. Unfortunately its not usually Bass anglers putting the trash in the water.

I was at Black Lake in the spring and it was the worst lake I have seen in years for trash. But I also noticed that the large majority of what was there was broken up foam and other docks that were scattered everywhere, and all matter of other types of trash.

But making excuses about who put it there or how it got there doesn't solve the problem.

Good Luck,

Steve
