I'm having trouble with fluoro breaking on my Curado's. It's not breaking at the knot but much further down in the reel. It's tending to break with heavier crankbaits (lipless or deep diving) when making long cast or breaking when setting the hook. When I look at where it broke it's not frayed but it seems like it has a kink. Normally when throwing baits like LV-500's, you never backlash them so I can't figure out what's going on. Anybody ever had this problem?

Tag,
I love your bold use of the term "lubricity".
This is probably another dumbass question about fluoro, but is there really a difference between fluoro and the fluoro leader line that is sold at an inflated price?
Use "lubricity" in a sentence tomorrow.
Hi Logan,
This is a great question. Yes, there are differences between the filler spool fluorocarbon lines and fluorocarbon leader material, both in the extrusion process and in the properties of the line itself. I have been told by several folks in the industry that leader material uses better quality resins/crystals and is often extruded to more precise tolerances than the fluorocarbon in filler and bulk spools. Leader material is typically harder, more abrasion resistant, has better tensile and knot strength, has better impact strength and usually features more elongation for shock absorption.
Leader material would not make a good mainline, however, due to the inherent stiffness. Filler/bulk spool fluoro is constructed to be softer and manageable for use as a mainline. Based on my experience, I would recommend using leader material for your leader applications if possible, especially for any high-impact or high-abrasion applications. For many applications though, a length of good-quality fluorocarbon line from a filler spool should suffice as a leader.
Hope this answers your question.
