Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

First of I want to say sorry to Les for getting his prop stolen, but it has brought up an expensive but important lesson. Props are expensive peices of equipment and they need protected. I think alot of us don't even think about someone unbolting our props and taking off with them. It can happen anytime, driveways, hotels, campgrounds, at weigh ins, you name it dirt bags are out their trying to take advantage of our stuff that we bought with out hard earned money

I have had a McGard prop lock for years now and I have not have one problem with it. It basically replaces the regular nut on your prop with their lockable one. No more worries about someone stealing your prop.  You can put it on and just forget about it and no one is going to steal your prop.

If anyone else has a good prop lock that they would recomend please let us know and add a link!

Here is the link if anyone is interested: http://www.mcgard.com/MarineProducts/PropellerLocks

As far as I can tell this link has the 74039 (mercury) for the cheapest! DIRT CHEAP!

Marc I have the one you are talking about. Works great, just dont tow with it on. It can scuff the prop, but thieves take one look and move on to another boat.

Yea, I found that out also and fixed the problem by wrapping the lock cylinder portion with rubber electrical tape; no more scratches when towing.

This would be a great product for someone else to start manufacturing.

ciao,
Marc

Just caught this I meant wrapped not rapped!

Then hopefully we are dealing with unintelligent criminals that can't figure it out quickly!  Thanks for the input Russ. Saw your new rapped demo boat out on the water today it looked great!

Ron,

I am serious as there are a couple of ways to get it off pretty quick and if I give you that info over a public forum the possibilities of your props disappearing are greatly increased.

Are you serious? Looks kind of funny, hows the exhaust escape or do you have to take it off everytime you want to run your motor?  How do you pull the Mcgard prop lock off? Its threaded on, I don't get how it can be pulled off, unless you have the proper key to get it off?  Just wondering.

Russ do you have a selection of prop locks at Limit Out Performance Marine that guys can come by and purchase??

Forget the Mcgard Prop Lock and Buy one of these:http://www.secureprop.com/benefits.html

The Mcgard Lock all though cheap is easy to pull off.

Russ

I don't really proof anything just throw it up there and hope it sticks!

Got to say Mcgard looks to be the best and easiest way..but the secure prop is more visual which would probably keep people away a bit more but I think I would rather have the Mcgard put it on and never mess with it again .. and that price of under $20 bucks wow can not beat that..

I just bought a McGard and it was $69.00 at ASM.  $20.00 am I missing something??

No, I just found them cheap on Amazon, but the  headquarters are on South Lake Union.....another local company, but big big big, company.  There where only 3 mercury ones left I don't know if they had them for Yamaha's.

Supporting the little companies are always a good thing if you have to support a much larger company might as well be Seattle based I suppose.
