Anyone ever catch a bass that bled out of the roof of its mouth before? I caught a smallie on Sammamish today that bled profusely out of the roof of its mouth after I removed the hook!? It wasn't near the gullet of the fish at all, no gills were bleeding, but half way down the roof of its mouth it started bleeding??? The fish seemed in great shape though and swam away acting like it was very healthy, still this had me concerned as I had never seen this before. Look at how much blood was running down the side of the fish in this picture! I am sure the fish is fine but it had me worried!

I have had smallies bleed like that before in tournaments and been concerned they would not make weigh in, but none of them died. I do use live well chemicals but I am not sure if it makes the differance as I have had fish die in my well that didnt have a visable mark on them... I agree that the cold water should help alot.
I agree...have you ever noticed that when you cut your finger it's a really tiny amount of blood...and then put water on it. It looks like you've severed something. The fish being wet makes it look worse than it really is I'd think.
