Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

The otherday I was out getting my boat ready for a trip to Grand Coulee to hit the river for a walleye trip, not paying attention I stepped off my back pourch( only 6 in. drop), rolled my ankle, and heard a pop. At that moment many things happened, first I prayed I did'nt break it, next it's funny how things in your body are all hooked together i started to sweat (alot), then I was'nt sure if I was going to get sick, one thing for sure was I needed to get up. Now this was a problem, not only was I in gut wrenching pain, but my pup Boog, who is 16 months old( an english masstiff) and weighs about 130 lbs. thought I was on the ground to play, she came from across the yard and knocked me back down while I was trying to get up, (never just push a dog of thi size with out a stern command), cause now she really thinks were playing. After finally letting her know we're not playing,(and hurting her feelings) I finally haul my big butt off the ground and go to the doctors, he says it's not broke and I'll be able to dance soon which is good cause I could'nt dance before. I should be able to stand up in my boat in a couple of weeks. Hope to see everyone on the water soon.

Sounds like we would be pretty competitive in a "SPAZ OFF".

I forgot to latch my trailer hitch once when hooking up at my warehouse. I also forgot to hook the safety chains. I drove all the way to my house, about a mile away, and up a steep hill. Fortunately the trailer managed to stay on my hitch with only gravity holding it on.

I won't be running my Fury prop at Moses this year. Instead I'll be using the Tempest II that already has some dings in it from last year's tournament.

I can top that story though. The dumbest thing that I did was much worse and fortunatly turned out to be one of the luckiest days ever. I used to keep my boat over at my dad's house. He has about a 200 yard long driveway that goes very steeply down to his house with a sharp "s" turn at the bottom. I was really concerned about the lights on the trailer working when I hooked up because I was having issues with them the last time I had pulled the boat. So, I hooked up and headed up the hill. About 20 feet from the top, the whole truck shook and I heard a loud BANG! I looked in the rearview mirror to see the boat heading back down the driveway! I threw the truck into park and went running after it. (Not that I could have done anything if I had caught up to it!) Fortunatly, the drivers side trailer tire got far enough off the driveway to catch in the mud and turn the boat to the right. The last thing I remember seeing was the boat disapearing into the bushes and small trees popping back to a stand after they had been run over by the runaway boat! The boat dropped into the front yard. It had been raining, so the grass was soft. The boat stopped with the prop only about 10 inches from the deck. The only damage was one tail light had popped out and the jack stand was bent. Oh, and one yard nome lost his life. Had the boat gone straight or turned the other way, it would had gone over a 6 foot drop and landed on a van. We had to hook up some chains to drag it out of the yard.

Moral of the story, don't be so worried about your lights that you forget to lock down your hitch and have strong hooks on your chains!!!! My hooks got bent straight up!!!!

One more quick story. I had to be towed in from Mercer Island all the way to Coulon. It was really rough and I took a wave so hard the motor died. Fortunatly, Ryan F. was not far behind us and stopped to pick up our fish for weigh-in. About half an hour later he came out to tow me back. I couldn't figure out why the motor wouldn't run, but it would turn over fine. So, two ropes later and a few miles of slow, rough water we made it back to the launch. I told Daniel T. what had happened and he said he had a similar issue. It was his kill switch. I looked back at the drivers seat and guess what was laying on the seat??? I plugged it back in and VVVRRRROOOOMMM!!!!

You live and learn.

Now here is a thread that I can relate with "Stupid things we do." While pre-fishing Potholes, two buddies and I were working our way through the dunes on plane and one partner decided to squat down on the back deck while I was driving and my other partner sat in the seat. The next dune came up quickly and I had to turn hard right while accelerating. My smart partner squating on the back deck could not hold on and rolled off the back deck at 60mph. When we heard a loud thud and splash, we turned to find him treading water with his cell phone held high in the air. Thankfully, no blood no foul. He now rides where he is supposed to, on the seat.
Thats funny, at least some of you can laugh about it
