Being from British Columbia, bass fishing is almost completely unknown in my neck of the woods. In other parts of Canada, namely Ontario, bass fishing is very popular but not here. Some of the nonsensical questions/responses I get include (but are definitely not limited to):
- The border guards...both Canadian and Americans can't believe that my Ranger is a fishing boat. They all think it is some kind of racing boat.
- People cannot get their heads around catch and release...I just watch their brains melt when I tell them that I just fished 8 hours and let everything go.
- The size of swimbaits. Every once in a while I stop by a popular put and take trout lake in the center of town...I love throwing a big wake bait off the dock with the locals. They have trouble grasping that.
- Question: "Bass fishing? do you troll for them?" No, never. "Oh so jigging then?" Well yes but...oh never mind.
- The fact that I don't drink beer while I am fishing really puzzles people.
- Oh and people who don't fish think that fishing is such a nice and relaxing hobby...they all just assume that I troll around all day or sit on the bank with a piece of grass sticking out my mouth with my hat pulled over my eyes (after drinking the aforementioned beer of course).
