Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Going for a drive and stay in Silver Lake resort in cowlitz for a few day this weekend, It's my first time there so don't know what to expect, hopfully can get into some action as this spring is tough fishing for me. Any tips on what and where to fish I should focus on? so far I'm thinking of jig, chigger craw, topwater, spinnerbait. I only have a electric motor boat and may not be able to cover lots of area. Any info is helpful, Thanks

PS. Thanks Tido(Spelling?) and Nick for the advises on fishing Samish, you guys are great help to newbie like me

Thanks Mark for your quick reply, I will definitly throw some senko too, do you let it drop weightless?

How's the cover in there? Do I need some heavy duty setup to throw into those red bushes and trees?

and lastly are they pretty much scattered everywhere or I needed to cover some water to know where they hangout? oh and do reaction bait and top water any good there?

Sorry for lots of questions just wanted to be prepared. Thanks

I just fished a club tournament there a couple of weeks ago. I only threw two things. A 1/4 Oz. Blue black jig with rattles and a Poor Boy baits Kissammee craw trailer. The other was a senko. I came in second. I know the guy that won was pretty much throwing a Senco as well. Throw into the red bushes and trees. The fish will be in water as shallow as a foot right now. Oh one more thing. I noticed that most of the places where my fish came from there were small clumps of cattails very near by. They were not in the cattails but withing a small area around them.
Thanks Mark your info is very helpful, looks like the weedend is going to be hot, can't wait!

I'm certainly no expert but I've done well with spinnerbaits in white and black.

However,my definition of "well" is questionable. The biggest bass I've caught was a bit over 3 lbs. So its more of a quantity vs.quality thing, which I understand is sad and pathetic but honest.

If the bass give you the fin,you can toss some small jigs such as Roadrunners and typically catch some pretty large crappies. Good luck out there

If you can't find fish in the bushes, then fish areas with a harder bottom. This is where they will be spawning this month. The pilings just West of the Silver Lake Resort is where I would be focusing. Don't be afraid to venture into one of the canals in the NW corner just past the pilings.

Thanks Kevin Spinnerbait is what I planned to use too, for me quantity is always good as I don't always catch more than 5 a day. catching a hawg is just like hitting jackpot.

Thanks for the pointer there Chad, I'll definitly look at the west first since it's closer, hope they'll be more active for the anticipated warm weather

Henry look for the canals.  If you only have a trolling motor there is some just to the right of the motel.  The manager of the resort Patty's husband John will also give you more than you ever wanted to know about the latest who what and where's on the lake.

Just back from the trip, fishing was slow, water is murky to only a foot visibility in the open water. Should have spend more time in the canals as it's the only place that has clear water, but I probably wasn't being patient and didn't go in deep enough, all I got there were small nibble from dink for a few hours, And there was always someone fishing it already. End up catching a few fish biggest one are 3lbs and 2lbs in random pads by senko. In general the trip is enjoyable as the weather was nice and no wind most of the time.
Thanks again for all the tips.
Its a tough lake with educated bass. Been fishing it for seven years and this year has been rough.
