When do you guys start using the top waters?
Last year BBD got me hooked on tossing frogs. I guess I'm just looking
for an excuse to use them/poppers too. Just wondering if this is to early
to use on a regular basis.

They dont work. Horriable bait to try and catch fish with. Everyone should just send them to me and I will take care of them all.

On a serious note, soon as the water hits about 60 I am all over top water for largies. Smallmouth, not untill right around spawn so a little warmer

Brian
Hey Brian, did you make it to Banks this last weekend and how was it?

Hey Eric,
Well when I say hammered.... For the short time I had a buzzbait tied on 45 min or so I ended up with two 3.10 and 3.8. So I was happy. However once it started to rain I was wishing I was the one getting hammered HA HA HA.

Tight Lines Getns

When you say you were getting hammered are you referring to the fish eating the buzzbait or your own condition at the time?

Well I was on Terrell yesterday evening around 730-930. I was throwing a BUZZ BAIT and getting hammered. So to answer your question YES throw those frogs. Man I love top water action. Good luck.
Yeah Kev ,
Fishn those kermits are pretty easy but getn a hook in those bass is the challange . Man its so hard to watch that "splash" and sit there and wait for the line to move ..The only way i can do it is after the bite i just take my eye off the fish and zoom in on my line . If It starts to move i try and set the hook like im fishing for marlan .. Cant get to excited on the bite , thats half to battle when froggn .

haha, I love Kermit,he was good to me last year but I was a jerk to him...I missed plenty
of fish, not Kermit's fault. I was shocked to see calm water for awhile and then SLAM!
Then Kermit tried to rip my face off a few times.

Sounds like you had fun with Kermit last year KEV...LOL
I personaly start thinkn top water as an option once water temps get above 50 ..just my personal water temp preference . Like taggy said wake baits are the truth right now as well ..

I have fell back in love with my Jerk baits last wkend on roosevelt .. ahh jerk, jerk pause ..twitch ,twitch pause SLAMM ! :-)

Sorry i get really excited when females the open there mouth .

Thanks for all the information, its very much appreciated. I have limited time
this weekend but hoping to get out for a couple hours at either Trout or Tanwax....anywhere
for bass. I'll check out the wake baits for sure.

Is their ever an ideal water temp for these situations?

Sorry for the endless questions...but this year I'm really trying to tune into bass fishing and
still balance my musky trips.
Thanks again
Kevin

Never too early, never too late!

werds to live by.

i learned pretty fast that you dont have to ask me twice to put one on. ill throw one awe-day.
Sure did Dave. I was there from Wednesday to Sat. Weather was nice thursday and Friday, and not bad on Wed. But Sat.....holy shit....that sucked. Fishing was good for me, felt bad for my clients.... poor guys. Its tough to get guys to hit a spot the size of a dinner plate and be quite. It was pretty tough so I kept them smallie fishing. That was pretty damn tough to. They were shallow on wed, a mix of shallow and out on Thurs, and Hell I have know idea were the hell they went on friday. But they had a great time, I took them around the lake and let them get out and hike, etc. They are already getting another trip. Hmmmm.... seems like I decided to give alot more info then your question asked.

Let me rephrase that.............Yes I did and it was kind a tough but weather held out for the most part.

Kermit is my number one topwater. LOVE IT, also have done really well on hook sets and keeping fish. I do put new hooks on and fish braid. Just have to really wait.
