For those unaware,I'm a bit "slow" and have even more mental issues when it comes to bass fishing. Only by the grace of god,I can actually wipe myself. Now that I've painted a picture. I was curious to get some info on topwaters, specifically colors.
How important are colors when it comes to something like a popper? I assume it must be
somewhat important or their wouldn't be so many options. On the flip side,I would also think that its more of the action and sound that entices a reaction.
Last year I did fairly well using a popper in a baby bass pattern on several different lakes.
(Fairly well for me is 2.5lbs but consistant....now stop laughing)
Furthermore,I've wondered the same about buzzbaits and frogs. Pretty much the same questions as the poppers. Is it action over color? Color over action? Both? Other?
Sorry, this might fall under the dumb question(s) section but for whatever reason,I tend to over analyze everything in my fishing techniques.

Wasnt sure if serious. Then I found this pic and Im positive it is you Kevin.
Daniel,that is about spot on.
Jerry, good to know I'm not the only one lost on the topwater thing
Being that a good deal of the top water bite is in hours of low to no light, I would lean more towards the action, commotion, and profile being more important than color. I'm bettin' that the variety of colors in these lures is more of a way to milk more money out of the angler, than a necessity to catch fish. I know I have a selection of poppers, and walkers, and chuggers, and buzzbaits, and frogs, ect, ect, so I'm one of those suckers, but then again, I also love collecting baits, and being a former boy scout, I always want to "be prepared". But then again, my opinion is not worth alot, so I hope that some of the real anglers weigh in on this one.

I don't toss frogs as much as I should. I've got some good strikes but tend to pull the trigger to early
and next thing I know,Kermit is jumping fast in my direction.
I tend to believe that the action is much more important than color choice with poppers but since I'm still fairly new at this,my thoughts might not hold much water.
It can be a bit overwhelming at times going to the shops and seeing so many different colors/patterns
for topwaters.
Kevin, I agree. I hate frogs just for that reason. LOL
But, this year like i said i'll be using some walk the dog style baits going to try River2Sea and Spro. I'll let you know the verdict, maybe you can join me one day!!!
