Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Their must be a pretty healthy population of walleye in Moses Lake. We caught two while fishing lipless crankbaits for bass in 3-4ft of water. The one I got was foul hooked and I was yelling for the net, "It's a giant, it's a giant". Actually it was 14" or so.
The other one was big though so we snapped a picture.

I'm looking to get into some 'eye fishing. I'm on the West side of the mtn, but am willing to drive over and fish/camp Moses or anywhere else that holds a lot of eyes. I know nothing about them, so some basic location and how-to would be great for me. Eventually, I'd like to take a few friends as well, but don't want to waste their time.
I couldn't tell you much about the seasonal patterns of Walleye but I saw a lot of guys on the north end of Moses trolling VERY SLOWLY in about 8' of water maybe. I would try and concentrate on any breaklines in rocky areas. As far as techniques I think a lot of guys use worm harnesses and bottom walkers. If I went after them I would troll one worm harness and one Shad Rap. Just don't keep any smallmouth or you will be forever cursed. BTW we released the Walleye unharmed. If they don't mess with my bass I won't mess with their bugeyes.

Aren't you in Western Bass Association?
From what I hear Potholes is pretty hot for walleye right now as well. They are an aggresive predator fish that will hit just about anything you throw out there. I've caught plenty while bass fishing with plastics and cranks, and jigs. I think with walleye it's more about finding them than what to try to catch them with, that's why alot of people troll with bottom bouncers, covering alot of area in the right lake your bound to come across some. I would suggest camping at MarDon resort on Potholes, they have a fising dock, boat launch, and boat rentals, as well as a good little tackle shop, and a restaurant. You can catch them right from their dock. I'm seriously considering a Potholes trip this weekend, I've been reading too many good reports from there and I got to get some of that action.
