My first real bed fish too! I've fished for smallies on beds, but didn't locate the bed and cast to it.  I had no intention of seeing a fish on it's bed so I had a 6'6 medium spinning rod because I was only planning on tossing jerkbaits. Thank god I had a jig in my tackle wallet. 1/4 oz bitsy bug with no trailer got er.
