Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Most who know me, also know that I would not normally make this kind of statement, however, I have an idea with regards to the target that is obviously being placed on the Warmwater Angler's backs.

Maybe it's time for us as a group to demand participation in the process or we refuse to buy licenses. We have been faced with Lead Bans, Hook Regs, Loons, and now the changes proposed to the Columbia. None of which were based on sound science, each and every one of these issues were emotional based. I think it's time for us, as a group, to get emotional.

I know that I have NEVER been checked for a license. The money I have spent over the years, I could cover a lot of "Fishing Without a License" tickets. I know that if we refuse to purchase licenses as a group it will hit WDFW's pocket book much harder than any tickets they will issue, as enforcement is almost non-existent.

We would have to get the Tournament Director's blessing to make this infraction as one that would not disqualify you. One person won't make a difference, but as a group we can. Now is the time for this to gain steam, so that as licences become due, we will have numbers enough to matter.

Thoughts?

Jon,

Something does need to be done so that we who enjoy fishing warmwater species have are voice heard and listened to. As much as I'd like to not have to buy a license again, I dont think thats the answer. Unfortunatly I don't have the answer.

I would love to see an economic report done to see how we as warmwater anglers positively effect the economy. I could only imagine its in the millions. Is are state willing to take a chance of losing that?

I know we as anglers need to stick together to protect what we have no matter where the issue is in this state.

Emotionally - It would be a great feeling. I find that our group of anglers are often put on the backburner because we've simply been the stepchildren of fishing (in Washington State) when it comes to warmwater species.

Realistically - Tournament organizers would committ suicide if members were fishing without licenses. Getting caught costs 'hundreds' of dollars, and multiple-offenders may have their personal property taken away, permanently. Is it really worth the risk? (Notice the State understands their power here) Organizations wouldn't be allowed to host tournaments. Bunch of legalities here.

Salmon and steelhead recovery is important to me, even though I only get to fish for these species once or twice a year. Why? I think everyone should have the ability to fish for whatever they wish. But why are WE constantly seeing repercussions as bass anglers? Every lake around Spokane has trout, yet we are killing off more lakes and reducing bass populations this year.

As we see more encroachment (speaking of the Columbia) I now see that decisions are made with little research, or research that is often kept anonymous for the simple fact that we are forced to be quiet - until it's too late.

Even if we had the power to impact the sales of fishing licenses, we are forced to oblige sooner or later. It's damned if you do...damned if you don't.

Until then, I'll just wait for the bucket biologists to do their dirty work. And let me tell you...there are A LOT more people who transport fish than you think. Is it right? No, but the lack of respect goes both ways.

You have obviously dug into the good stuff tonight.  Special occasion?

Jon,

I am totally with you on this one! Several years ago the state took away a lot of areas where atv's were allowed to be used. I did the math and figured out if I made it 3 years without getting caught then I was money way way ahead. It has been 8 years and I haven't been caught yet. I was paying more and more for less and less areas to use. Needless to say that machine will NEVER be licensed!

I understand how you feel about the topic jon , trust me this is complete Bull to say the least.

However , like others have mentioned aboved . Taking the law into your own hands or breaking the law is not the best answer imho bud . I have always felt that due to the fact that the bass community in washington state is extremely small in comparison to the Salmon & trout anglers is what gives us a small voice . It is sooo very obvious that this state is not overly concerned about bass population or the impact that our fisheries will suffer  due too there recent decisions on the columbia river .

Sending letters , emails , phone calls , etc are small steps that does sometime make a small difference .

Will it be good enough to overturn the states decision ? I personaly dont think it will !!

The reason i say this is because at the end of day the state of washington is not dependant upon the bass species population to produce the majority of the revenue for olmypia.

Our bass tourney events make an impact on local business owners for the most part . Gastations , resturants , hotels , tackle stores , etc . Yes the state makes a little money from the purchase of permits from all of the hosting tourney directors , but outside of that the only other revenue produce is from the purchase of fishing licenese. I honestly believe that contributed to the state going after NW bass for back tax $ . There is no simple answer here guys  .

electing the proper officials into office is one way to go , our last president of the USA was a bass angler. Our current nations leader would stare at you with a blank face if he was pose with a quetion in regards to bass fishing in america , are we are feeling the impact of this ?  hell yes , catch my drift :)

Your state voters registration card is far more superior than your states fishing license ! Change has to start in Washington , DC in order for it benifit Washington state  ..real talk :)

Does your ATV look like this? Typically there is a bonus to the licenses for these, they also come with a "Parking Pass" (It's blue and hangs from the mirror).

LMAO! I like the idea; however, I believe we would benefit moving forward if we waited until after the election in November before we made a stand. Even starting a petition that stated we wouldn't purchase fishing licenses next year might get some notoriety. It wouldnt be hard to gather 1,000+ signatures at tournies, club meetings, exc....

I like the petition idea. Its enough to get some attention.

It's a freaking misdemeanor not a felony. It's no different than speeding.

Like I have said before! Quit voting in the queers and the tree huggers. Start voting in the rednecks that support fishing, hunting and the "American way of life". This is how this country was founded and operated for many years, maybe we have become a little to liberal to defend ourselves. I also suggest that you vote for individuals with a penis! Can you imagine what the other country leaders say behind closed doors, after meeting with Hillary "butt ugly" Clinton? Put your pants back on men and quit carrying your womans purse! We shouldn't be intimidated by our goverment officials, they should be intimidated by us! Don't ever forget, that we as many pack the hammer.

Dana - we need to have a beer and solve ALL of the country's problems. I think we could do it in about 45 minutes!
