I was wondering when the largemouth on the columbia start to become active on the columbia can you catch them in mid 40s water temps or do you need to wait a bit for the water to get into the 50s and 60s? Also what baits tend to work on largemouth in the spring?

I am sure you can get them to bite in the upper 40's but when it hits the lower 50's it turns on. I mostly use a wacky rigged Senko or a Brush hog. My biggest was 2 years ago on a Senko. It was 6 lbs 10 oz . I caught that one with Jordan, pre-fishing for the Nw Bass tournament. It always seems to work out that way for me. lol
Damon,

The Columbia fish almost always can be caught in March in the sloughs, it can be slow but the fish are usually big ones. Fluctuating river water levels can make it difficult to get into some of the more isolated sloughs, and these are quickest to warm. Water temps can go up 10 degrees in short order with a couple of sunny, warm days in the backwaters. This has been a cold March but I know guys that are already catching largemouth in the Boardman pool on days like last Friday. The biggest bass down there are usually caught in March and April.
