KVD x 4: 2011 Classic champ on NW Wild Country this Saturday

I started it back in 2003 when Iaconelli won his Classic on the Lousiana Delta. It continud through Clausen, Duckett, Jones, Skeet, etc., and this Saturday, NW Wild Country will continue its 8-year tradition of chatting with the newly crowned Bassmaster Classic the Saturday after their win.

"Kevin from Kalamazoo" - freshly crowned Classic champ Kevin Van Dam - will be checking in with me and the boys this Saturday, Feb. 26, fresh off his fourth Classic win, and his second in a row.

Anybody have any questions for King Kevin?!?

Can you ask VanDam about the spinnerbait he used on the first day? Could you ask him what he meant when he mentioned that the fish didn't want a lot of vibration? Does that mean that he went away from the traditional single large colorado blade spinnerbait that most anglers would slow roll early in the year in dirty water and threw something else instead? Also, you should ask him if he knows of anywhere where they actually have those HVC 1.5 and 2.5 cranks in Chartruse/Black in stock! HAHA! They are sold out everywhere! Thanks Joel!

We didn't get to this question with KVD yesterday, but I've had this conversation with him before. Actually, I've had this discussion with a LOT of the Elite Series anglers, and there's not a one of them who wouldn't like to fish more in the West. KVD and Hackney are two guys who have expressed a keen interest in the Columbia River. KVD is also intrigued by Lake Washington.

The anglers get tired of fishing the same waters at the same time of year- I think I might've posted a blog over on the NWWC website about a conversation I had with Hackney right after he won the Forrest Wood Cup, about fishing more waters in the West and Northeast.

Ask him if those guys enjoy coming out west. I am curious if the anglers do not care for the long haul, or if is more of the organination not wanting to deal with running a tournament way out here because we always get forgotten about it seems. Ask him what his thoughts are about spreading out the tournament sites to include other western states and locations that seem to get overlooked such as th Columbia river and other lakes like mead, Shasta etc.

Here's the link to the interview: KVD NWWC Interview

Man that would be so awesome to have them on lake wa or even the columbia river.

Don, but how good would it feel to say that Kevin Vandam or any other pro for that matter won the classic on the spots you told them?  Guys that have never fished at that level don't get it there is no way to comprehend it.  The Elites dirty little secrets.

It would be an interesting topic to discuss.  I noticed Martens went out of his way to mention how he never gets any help when it comes to finding fish.If true, he would be one of very few who don't get help before the cutoff.  Duckett was very out in the open about soliciting help before the classic and it caused a bit of a ruckus amongst the pros.

But, it would probably take some serious balls to go there if you are the one asking the questions...

Ask him if he has ever heard of anyone purchasing waypoints of key areas holding fish....nahhh better not. Might hit too close to home.
