Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Just thought it would be fun to have a biggest fish of the year contest. It could be started in the next couple weeks like middle of april or may 1 and run for like 6 months or so.

Maybe two categories green/brown. Weigh your fish and post a picture.

Maybe anybody that wanted to enter could donate a certain amount $ to WAFISH and there could be a prize based on the donations or entries. I dont know if this is possible or legal but I think it would be fun and maybe raise some $ for the site.

I agree with Shane.  Kind of tough to do this for a highly sought after prize.  Why don't we just do a hawg thread, where if its not 6+ pounds.....it doesnt belong.

I don't know about the year long idea though.  Seems way too drawn out.  Just do it from May til October and be done with it.  Alot of people who live say near potholes/moses....can't even fish year 'round due to ice.

Mark,

I agree....It makes it tough, but I think you have to go with the lessor of two evils.....the guy who hits Silver in March and gets a 9lber definately gets snubbed, but the guy who is ice fishing in Spokane in March doesnt even get to fish.

If April is going to happen it better get org'd quick and some ground rules set.   I'm pumped!!!!  Spring is here.

agree'd.

Never heard of ice fishin ? Hahahaha
In all honesty if someone catchin a big ol swamp donkey an the post it on wafish, people are gonna give props, any contest, is only gonna create conflict I.M.O.
By all means tho people post up the piggys, always awesome seeing big fish caught...
I see your points, and they are valid.  365 days seems like a really long time to compete when its just for bragging rights.  You put a nice prize out there, and most people will be honest, but most isnt all.

We will agree to disagree on this one. I think a fish of the year contest needs to be exactly that. Not the fish of the season or fish that fits best because you live in one region of the state or another. I drive over the hill to fish all the time. No reason the guy in Spokane can't do the same if his water is frozen. Maybe it should not be fair becuase some guy lives close to potholes during the spring and have better access to big Largies at that particular time than I do here where I am. The only way that would be fair to all is to run it within the state from Jan 1 to Dec 31. Other wise forget it. Just my opinion.
Mark I agree it should be year round if its going to be called biggest fish of the year. Since its already April its a little late for that now but biggest fish of the year just sounds so much better than fish of the half year. I would think nobody would be a big enough douche to try and cheat on weight or post an old picture.

get over it Russ got lucky last year

What happens to the guy at Silver in March or April that gets a 9 Pounder? His don't count because it was not caught in May or later? BOGUS!

People lie about who they are on here, why wouldn't they lie about a fish? There is no way th his will work. Fun idea, no way to police it. Just look at th es best 5 thread. Lies all over!

Wut is going on in this thread?

Oh hia guise!

Its really easy actually. You take a picture of the fish with a piece of paper showing a code or some other way to verify it was caught recently. You can also get a good pic of the fish and weight on a scale (most scales are close enough). Sure its a little more complicated than just people posting regular pics and every one else guessing the weight but its definitely doable if you sheds would like to do a small internet "contest" for bragging rights.

If you can't follow the rules or guidelines to this "contest" then your dumb fish doesnt count.

words of wisdom have spoken

/thread.

Sit on it  Pottsee!

Who lies about who they are on here? Phildo may be the only fake.

I think it should be top 5 fish of the year, also weights are not a good way to do this contest.

Two questions.....

Do guys know how to use a tape measure?

Do guys have a camera phone or camera?

If the answers are yes and yes, then it should be a length and girth measurement then use the formula (length times length times girth divided by 1200) Guys are going to need cloth tape measure like the ones found at sewing stores or sometimes that section at your local Safeway.  Then pictures to prove the length and girth should be submitted along with a good picture of you holding the fish.

I think this would be the easiest way to keep everyone as even as possible and no cheating involved. If Jordan wanted to help get involved maybe somehow he could get certified wafish tape measures that entrants had to buy.

Other than that I love seeing pictures of big fish photos, a brag board would be awesome 5 pounds or larger only would be awesome, 6 pounds I think the page might get a little too boring. The problem alot of guys call 4 pounders 5 pounders and 5 pounders 6 pounders, most of the time they are way off and we here at wafish hate calling people out on there weights especially if the person has no evidence of the weight......yeah right!
