Fished for 5 hours today and only had a few soft strikes, not much at all. Wondering if anyone knows much about tapps at this time of the year, i usually fish later in the season. i was throwing football heads and dropshoting and no such luck. If anyone has any tips on location or what i could use it would be well appriciated. thanks guys

Look for an alumaweld sled throwing dropshots for smallies and bucktails for ski's it's silver and green with a green top. we'll have the heater if you get too cold ; )

Tapps is a funny lake the smallies move up sooner their than anywhere in the state. You really only need on rod and that is a crankbait rod. Hit the rocky points leading into spawning flats or breaks off of flats. Look for rocks, but more important than that rocks with stumps, usually will need both to be succesful. I would be using a chrystal craw colored 1/4 oz. hot lips or a 1/4 oz luhr jensen speed trap same color. The fish always seem to be shallower less than 10 feet this time of year. What you usually find is a small school that has moved up and you can have a flurry of action and then nothing. Don't stop after the flurry is done it is done and it is time to move on to a new spot to find more. Bang your cranks into the stumps, alot of times you will get it through the stumps but just incase take a lure retriever it will save you.
This time of year its all about covering water, it is the one time of year that the hardbaits shine and the soft plastics need to take the back seat..... Good Luck.
Don't encourage me.
