A depth sounder isn't really necessary at Lake Samish between now and mid-June.  There will be quality largemouth and smallmouth all over the spawning flats, shallower rock piles, docks, laydowns, brush, reeds and pad areas around the entire lake.  Look for a mix of spawners and pre-spawners.  You will catch the fire out of them.

Reaction baits on those flats will be fun.

Thanks for the help. any suggestions on what type of plastic or reaction bait?

Spinerbait and lipless crankbait.  This time of the year I don't throw much plastic unless the bites are hard to come by.  I just search flat looking for fish that have moved up and active.
If I do use plastic.  I go a with jigs.
Don't get discouraged! Try lots of baits.  I haven't seen any fish spawning yet but they are cruising shallow water and are very close!  Both largemouth and smallmouth will be really close together and figuring out how to make them bite in the clear shallow water can be the toughest part.  I would rig a jerkbait, football jig, swimbait, dropshot, weightless senko and pitching jig.  That should cover your basis.  More important than anything else though, do NOT leave any valuables in your car!  This lake is notorious to being a target for theft and I have already heard a report of a break in this year.  I am not trying to discourage you from fishing the lake, just warn you so that you can have an enjoyable trip to the lake without any issues.  Good luck and catch them well!
Thanks for all the help i will be posting pics of the nicer fish. (if u wanna see how we did)
I was out there on tuesday and seen a few largies up in the shallows. I saw 1 on a bed and 6 more just cruizing shallow water. I did not see or catch a smallie at all. I did see an absolute bohemith of a largie in about 3 feet of water just mozying along. I made an attempt to get her, but just like my high school days......rejected! LOL . I talked to another guy out there that did very well. He said there was no pattern or constant to any of the hits he got. They are VERY spooky from what I seen on tuesday. I will return soon though

we saw a coupke crusing largies as well and we managed to cath a 4lbs smallie off a bed other then that all we got was a couple dinks. it rained all day whcih made it hard to see under the water
