Out Sat. in the beutiful sun, Water is 5 foot low and 54 AM and 60 PM. A few fish up shallow acting like they are in shock. All the ones I saw were crusing very slow. Managed to get a 40" on a crank bait and a 36" on a fly. Also had another on a fly about 40" but I didn,t get the hook stuck deep enough.(hey Todd can you figure out what's in that fishes mouth?)

8 wtin a Rio short cold ocean line. I'm going to set up a ten wt soon. It is a lot of work and a 10 will help.

It will take a lot more fish than that to get into my backing....they are a lot of fun on a whimpy rod though.

All fly rods are wimpy compared to heavy casting Musky gear. I use a 8 wt

The biggest problem I can see fly fishing for Muskies is related to exactly what you said ---getting them on the reel and hoping your loose line isnt tangled up with a host of stuff in the boat. But answering your question-yes. They fight a lot harder on a "wimpy" rod and using the reel is helpful.
