Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I just want everyone to know about this. My club had a tournament out of Coulon last weekend. 4 of the non boaters drove their own vehicles. All parking areas, including the overflow behind the park, were gated and locked. So, these 4 guys bought launch fee tickets and parked in the car topper spots near the launch. All 4 of them got $45 tickets for parking in those spots. Even the two guys driving full size trucks that could have easily brought small boats to the lake. I guess the city of Renton is ran by some serious clowns. Watch where you park.

I've done that numerous times, and never been cited. How did the officer know they didn't put a canoe or other small boat in? Probably a rookie officer! They should call the Renton Police Dept., and I don't see why they wouldn't get dropped.
One of the guys did cal right away after the tourny. The officer he spoke to said he couldn't do anything about it. They will all have to take it to court. I would think that the city banks on you not wanting to lose work time and just paying the $45. Every one o thm had the $20 pass on their dash also. Just obsurd.

Yea so i got one these tickets about 3 years ago , I contested the ticket and went to court over it ..

turns out the posted sign there in the park does say "Cartoppers only " .. I had my SUV parked there , but since i dont have a cartopper on the back i apparently broke the law . I did manage too get the ticket reduced , but i still had to pay .. small price to pay as oppose too dropping the soap in the prison shower i guess ..hahaha

I agree with you. I am one of the non-boaters Aaron mentioned. I am taking this to court even though it will cost me more than the $45 in time missed from work plus travel expenses to get to the courthouse. I just don't like getting pushed around. I'm not a criminal, I paid the fee and I get ticket for parking anyway. I think the Renton PD should have more important things to do than write unjustified parking tickets at an empty boat launch at 7am on a rainy Saturday. It sucks that I now have to go waste the courts and my own time. All thanks to Officer J. Templeton’s rookie move.

great police department ! yep they spend time writing tickets but don't spend time with car prowlers. these guys tell me they don't have the resources to watch the parking lot full time. And they don't have staff to prevent vehicle theft as well as violent crime. You tell me why i see cops at that sh*t hole full time then ? what a friggen laugher this crap is. I absolutly hate that G damn Coulon and i have practically quit tourney fishing because of it. I used to love that lake but you can have the that place and the bullsh*t that comes with it. Oh yeah watch your stuff at Banks also ...

DJ out

I hate Coulon Park and avoid it whenever I can as well.  Last ABA tournament I paid with my credit card, and the machine took the card and didn't give me my receipt!  Now what do I do?  Put it in again and get charged again and get no receipt?  Yet if I park after having already paid, and have no receipt to prove it when the officers check vehicles, I am going to get a ticket.

I decide to hang around the machine and watch others, and they all get their receipt.  By now I'm wondering if maybe it just didn't record my credit card, though I know it said take receipt below.

After watching other's get their receipts just fine, I decide to run my card a second time, and luckily this time it gave me a receipt.

On Monday I called the City of Renton and sure enough my credit card was charged twice.  At least they credited my account, but frankly that ramp is not worth the aggravation even if it were free.  They collect our money for tournaments, yet never unlock the bathrooms by the docks for us until we have blasted off.

By the way, this was the third time in 5 years I have been charged more than once because the machine didn't produce a receipt, yet charged my card.

Washington State needs to put a ramp facility on Lake Washington; lots of cheap land in this economy; maybe they could get some land from Boeing since they are driving them out of the state.

ciao,

Marc

Hey Kevin,

First things first, if the Ticket was issued by a Police officer then you'll fight it in traffic court...if it was a "Meter Maid" then it's all written and if they say you owe it, you can appeal then if they say you still owe it, then you must pay.

Just in case you haven't tried, I have had success with traffic court in the past just calling the court and talk to the judge over the phone and explaining how ridiculous the situation is and that it would be in everyones best interest to just dismiss the ticket and not waste the courts valuable time.

If that doesn't work you can request a "Trial by Declaration"...this way you just write what happened and you don't have to waste time physically in court.  Unfortunately the burden of proof falls on you to show that you paid the $20.00 parking fee.  So hopefully there was a receipt or you charged it to your card?

If you  do decide to go to court in person or by Declaration, you should definitely start off filing for a "Discovery" in your case, this will contain any incriminating information that the officer may have put in a part of the record that is just for the court...things he/she saw, how they found you were in violation...your demeanor if dealt with in person...etc.  Usually it is the sworn statement of the officer and if you can poke holes in his/her sworn statement you'll have a far better chance of fighting it fairly.

If it were me and I decided to fight it in person, I would summon the officer and waste his/her time since (s)he would be wasting mine, although (s)he'll probably be there on a scheduled all day court date defending all his/her ridiculous tickets....but the good part is that before your turn comes up you'll more than likely get to hear a few defenses and some of them are really good! haha.

I once saw a guy defend himself from a ticket for riding in the HOV lane, he said he decided to pass a car that had a foul odor coming from behind the vehicle...he was getting sick and developing a head ache and the only way to avoid the smell was to get in front of the vehicle because the smell would linger quite a ways behind the vehicle.  There wasn't anywhere for him to pull over safely on the freeway and even if he had, it still wouldn't spare him from the foul odor...so he decided to pass the guy in the HOV lane.  He got the ticket dismissed because the judge ruled that in some cases there is just reason for breaking the law for the greater good.  Had he passed out he would have caused far more damage than using the HOV lane to pass a single vehicle.  LOL!

I genuinely am sorry.  Didn't mean to mistake you for a poacher or a fake person on the site.  Sometime people make up a user holding up dead fish to get people goat since most everyone on here does catch and release.

I know I upset you and for that I am quite sorry.  I promise to not jump conclusion like that again.  I am not very smart sometime.  Hard to be smart and so good looking. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.  That is funny because I am not good looking.

Good for you for knowing reg and only taking what you need.

I mentioned that to you many times over, you kept harassing the s*** out of me, I am new to the site and I don't know how to reply to you directly or anything like that, I've replied to you like in 6 different places, and you just kept coming at me from different angles....but playing with my pictures and changing the titles to make me look like a dirt-bag that was low man.

I've never wanted to cause physical pain to anyone so badly before in my life...then there was you.

I took my family fishing and we had such an awesome day, all I wanted to do was share that moment with the guys on here, because my kid nephews were out with us and they both caught some nice fish.  You have to understand that you weren't only attacking me personally, but my values, morals and common decency.  I felt like you were attacking those poor kids that had kept a fish and learned a valuable lesson that day...Take only what you need and leave the rest for another day.  We each kept our biggest fish and could have easily limited out to 5 fish each, but we decided to release the rest and there were plenty of other similarly sized fish that were let go.

I appreciate you being big enough to admit when a mistake was made, but the damage that has been done at this point is irrepairable, you've burned a bridge here, and I wouldn't want anything to do with a guy that jumps to conclusions so quickly and moves to tarnish someones character so quickly with such little information.

I am the only person pictured because it is my profile and I am not going to place photos of my nephews, wife, brother-in-law and son on here until I know some of the people that I'm dealing with...I plan on meeting up with the guys and just couldn't understand why you were hazing me for absolutely no reason.

You didn't even bother to ask how many anglers or where they were caught until AFTER I mentioned this fact to you.  I just wish you would have played this whole thing out differently man.  It's a shame that you chose the route you did and lost a potential friend.

Good luck to you in the future, but I'd rather not cross paths with you again...I hold the company I keep to higher standards than that which you've displayed.

Rob-

I did not see your response on my page comments.  I admit I was wrong.  Wasn't the first time, won't be the last.  Didn't realize there were 7 people fishing.

Hey John, I didn't bring this here...Kimihino Nakamura started harassing me with the fish in my profile and calling my character to question.  He did it here, so I replied here.  Plain and simple.  I know it doesn't look that way now because he has removed his original post...I have deleted all of my posts relating to this subject.

Robert Capetillo & why is this posted under this title of Coulon park and parking tickets. Pleases keep on point.

Well I Just had my hearing today. The ticket was dismissed.

FYI they had it on video.

LOL, Well they ticketed me for parking there without a car topper. Turns out there is a law in Renton that makes it illegal to do so. I got it dismissed anyway. I just thought I would share that they have the place under video surveillance since there were people commenting on how would a COP know if you had a car topper or not when you are on the water.
Good for you! This parking stuff is driving me nuts. Everyone's always fund raising now days and taking the fun right out of it.
