Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

First of all, we may get more than one.  WDFW is actively thinking about stocking possibly two Region 4 lakes north of Seattle.  As of right now, it looks like Samish will be our next tiger muskie lake.  Stevens Lake might follow later.

Bruce Bolding says adding another lake is "firing on all cylinders," i.e., going smoothly so far.  After lake surveys, the next step is public meetings next winter, followed by SEPA review (which usually is no big deal), then hopefully stocking in June 2014.  These fish would not come out of the current fingerling production; upon adding one or more new lakes, WDFW would get more eggs and raise more fingerlings to maintain its preferred stocking ratios of 1 fish per acre in the first year and thereafter 1 fish per 2 acres.

A forum reader asked about Mason Lake, and I asked Bruce about it.  His answer is Mason may be biologically feasible but isn't politically feasible so it ain't gonna happen.  IMO political factors can change with time, so this doesn't necessarily mean Mason will never be considered again, but it won't in the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the info Don.

Hey guys. I live near Lake Samish and am very familiar with the lake. Out of curiosity, what does the lake survey entail and how does the WDFW determine whether or not a lake is biologically feasible? Hopefully this will encourage the WDFW to make major improvements to the boat ramp, which is a catastrophe currently.
Just an FYI, vehicle prowl and theft is a huge problem at Lake Samish, which would be great to get under control at some point.
Keep us posted!

I think a surveyor needs to come to Kapowsin... That lake looks very muskie potential.

Would be nice if Mason got them some day. I'm about 15 minutes away

Mason has been considered and it's northern pikeminnow population almost demands stocking tiger musky but one of the worries has to do with the tribes in the area.

Kapowsin was submitted by my to Bruce Bolding a couple times. I agree that it would be a great musky lake.

If you guys want your opinions heard, contact the WDFW Warmwater Division with your concerns about musky lakes. Come to a CMA meeting. Join CMA. A group has much more of a voice than an individual.

Bottom line: We need more musky lakes.

Spencer - Musky is spelled with a "Y" at the end. Not an 'ie'. Just wanted to let ya know.

Sorry, sometimes I say "ski" and that gets me to spell "muskie".
