Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Looking to head out this weekend and do some fishing with my two boys..

What would be your destination from the above lakes and some helpful hints would be appreciated as I haven't fished Roosevelt or Potholes.

Thank you

I would fish Potholes....this weekend and every weekend. We are supposed to get a cold front on Friday that could make things tough every where. At least if you are at Potholes you might catch a big fish. An everage fish at Potholes will proabably be bigger than a giant at Roosevelt or Banks.

Fished the b.a.s.s. qualifier two weekends ago at potholes. . . Very tough fishing. Yea a few people got on em but for the most part it was brutal. It may have gotten better since then but if you've never fished it before, you might want to look at another lake.

Good luck

Stick to where you know and feel the most comfortable fishing if you are taking your kids, itll make for a better time with them. Do some exploring on your own and take them to those destinations another time. Just my .02

If you have the weekend I'd go to banks, and if that don't work Roosevelt is a couple of miles away. Go to keller ferry and start at the mouth of San Poil, grubs and jerk baits

I fish Roosevelt darn near every weekend, so I am biased to the lake. It's can't miss right now for smallies, 5 to 20 FT of water. Find a good flat near deep water and drop shot some tubes or grubs in a green/gold flake color. Our neighbor kid had never caught a fish, he got 10 there on Sunday. Paul's advice is good, Keller is a good starting point. Just down river from Keller Ferry are a couple really nice rock slides that are on the south side of the lake at the base of a big bluff, those produce.

Fish are bigger in Banks lake, and bigger yet at Potholes. With kids, sometimes it's better to catch a bunch of 1-2 LB fish, than just a few larger ones (at least it is for my kids).

Good luck.

Thank you everyone for your responses. One question, do I need a tribal license for Roosevelt?

If you are fishing from a boat; no. If you are fishing from the shore on the Indian side then you would need a tribal license.

If you are going to fish Roosevelt and are coming from Spokane then I wouldn't go all the way to Keller. I would put in at Porcqupine and fish the Spokane arm. It is much closer to Spokane and I think there are better opportunities to catch bigger fish up the arm as well as smaller fish.

Good point Josh, coming from Spokane there is no need to go all the way to Keller. Besides that the road into Keller is a winding down hill stretch that will put your brakes to the test.

Lots of great fishing in the Spokane arm.
