Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I want to pass along that ABA Oregon North has made some schedule changes. We had some conflicting dates with other circuits and we want to give everyone a opportunity to fish ABA Oregon North.
Please check out the site to make note of these changes.

When visiting the site and pull up the Oregon North schedule for 2013 hit the refresh button. I had to do that in order to pull up the new schedule.

David,

I appreciate you trying to deconflict the dates.  I used to drive down to fish Oregon North, but lately the schedule has always conflicted with Washington events.

I would fish your entire circuit this year except for two things.  The June 1 event at the Willamette conflicts with ABA Washington East TriCities/Columbia River event.  I love to fish the lower Willamette, and wish that event didn't conflict.

The only other reason is the Tenmile event.  Although I have enjoyed fishing that lake the two times I fished ABA events there, it is hardly Oregon "North," and is too costly to make the long drive, hotels, etc. to fish against the locals for the first event of the season.  I would consider it as a last event if I was in the running for AOY, but that is the only reason it would make financial sense.

Believe me, I know how hard of a job it is to schedule tournaments, and deconflict the dates, and work with Fish & Wildlife, and pandor the anglers.  I believe this year will be the start of an even tougher job for directors, because angler support is going to drop when people begin to realize how their taxes and health care costs are going to dramatically rise.  Disposable income is going to dwindle, and it will be reflected in tournament support.

I believe the smart organizations are going to have to offer entire circuits within a tight geographical region to reduce travel costs.  At least until the economy improves, which at this rate will not be for several years at least.  You have the opportunity to offer an entire circuit on the Columbia River, which I think can work. I hope I get to fish at least a few of your events this year, and if not this year, then next year.  Good luck!

ciao,
Marc Marcantonio

Thank you Marc.

I am not the tournament director, but my long time friend and fishing partner Jim Gaither is. I am assisting him. I helped with the schedule and I took on the responsibility of promoting the tournaments.

Our goal first and foremost is participation and keeping it a true northern circuit. I know Tenmile isn't north but I have seen participation in many northern Oregon March tournaments and it isn't pretty. April and May are log jammed with Divisional and regular events. Our thoughts also with Tenmile "besides its traditional large turn out " is that some of it's southern Oregon participants will come north for travelers.

We changed the original schedule because it conflicted with Washington ABA Easts June 1st and 2nd. We moved it to Aug 10 & 11th Hat rock and Boardman. Again the thought is to draw Eastern Oregon and Washington anglers. Some may need points for Angler of the year, some may need one more to qualify for the TOC and some may just want to fish.

Right or wrong our goal is to bring in more fisherman. We never once catered to our strengths. We just tried to do what we think will bring in the most participation.

Thank you for the input hope to see you at our events.

David

Thanks for the reply, David.  Glad to see you guys are trying to build the circuit.  I don't understand what you mean about the June 1 tournament, since the schedule on ABA's website shows it is still at the Willamette.  Are you saying this one has been changed to the Boardman and Hat Rock event?

The original 2013 Oregon North schedule came out on the ABA website in early December. The original schedule had June 1st Hat Rock , June 2nd Boardman and Willamette Aug 3rd. The North schedule came out before Washington east was posted. Once the Washington east was posted we seen that we had a major conflict. So after reviewing all of Oregons circuits, ABA and Northwest Bass in Washington we came up with the revised schedule. That being what is posted now on the ABA site June 1st Willamette, Aug 10th Hat Rock and Aug 11th Boardman.

Once these changes were made and posted on the ABA web site I wanted to get the word out. The last thing we want is someone showing up at the wrong place at the wrong time. Also as stated in my original post. When I went to review the new schedule on the ABA site I had to hit my refresh for the new schedule to appear.

Guess I still don't understand.  If you changed your schedule to avoid the conflict with the ABA WA East events at Tri-Cities on June 1 and June 2, then why does the schedule show you have the Willamette event on June 1 still?  I have hit the refresh button, and it still comes up as June 1 on the Willamette.

It still looks like a conflict to me.

The original conflict they avoided was ABA N Oregon was scheduled on the same Saturday on the Walulla Pool as ABA East WA.  Oregon was launching at Hatrock and Washington was leaving from Columbia Point in Richland.

Ok, now I understand.  The conflict that was resolved was the body of water, but not the date.  Not sure that makes sense since the rescheduled Hat Rock ABA OR North event is on Wallula at the same time as the Nixon's Marine Open...

Marc I actually spoke to Gary from Northwest Bass and they are not having the tournament at Boardman/ Umatilla this August 10th. Gary said they will be taking that date down from the Nixons website. It isnt advertised as a Nixons open it is advertised as a Northwest Bass event on the Nixons site. Northwest Bass schedule is as posted on the Northwest Bass website.

Good to know, thanks for the information!
