Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

For those of you who were not able to make it down to the Limit Out Seminar a couple weeks ago to hear Danny Garret of WDFW speak, attached to this post below you will find the powerpoint for the presnetation he made. There were alot of items on here he discussed in much more detail and numerous question/answers throughout the presentation but this may help give you an idea of what he went through.

Besides the obvious tournament permit portion at the beginning I found the studies on Lake Samish and the introduction of Tiger Muskies very interesting. I also thought that the introduction of Channel Catfish into lakes that have stunted growth was intriguing. One point Danny made on introducing both of these species is that both will feed on bluegill, pumpkinseed and perch, while the Tiger Musky will also feed on the Northern Pikeminnow (Squawfish) and peamouth chubs. By doing this the idea is that it will help the bass population since juvenille bass feed on the same resources as those smaller fish do. In addition, the biomass of the lake - or in other words the number of fish that a lake can support depending on size - will allow for more bass population with the smaller fish thinnned out.  Very cool stuff in my opinion.

Other topics that were discussed were the Banks Lake Largemouth Restriction for tournaments and Silver lake and it's decline in fishing since the introduction and takeover of Grass Carp. Danny does not manage the Banks Lake region so that is mostly out of his control. For Silver Lake however it sounded like the Grass Carp there can be removed by whatever means necessary. I also brought up the idea of artificial structure being added to Silver Lake and it sounded like that is a reall possibility if someone wanted to take that by the horns and push for doing it, much like the Mesebergs have on Potholes.

Enjoy!

Thank you for the recap, Deuce.  Good stuff.

I'll start running special leaders on my expensive swimbaits at Samish.  I appreciate the heads up!

Danny is the man!  He has spoken to Borderline numerous times and I really think he is someone that is good to have on our side and that wants to help us in any way that he is capable of!
