Borderline Bassin Contenders will be holding their annual Lake Whatcom Spring Open on Saturday, April 27th 2013.  We decided as a club that having this tournament on opening day is what makes it so special after last years and are opting to keep it always as a Saturday tournament.  I apologize to anyone who wants to fish but has other obligations.  Driver's meeting will be at 6 AM ish depending on how long registration takes with the gate not opening until 5 most likely. Blast off will hopefully be at safe light (maybe a later drivers meeting will keep me from blasting everyone off in the dark).  Please try to be registered with your boat inspected prior to the driver's meeting.  I will be in the upper portion of the parking lot at Bloedel Donovan Park at 5 AM accepting entry forms and doing boat inspections as people drive in.  Entry fee is $100 per team plus $20 big fish.  Entry fee is paid back 80% and big fish 100%.  Payout is 50% to 1st, 30% to 2nd, and 20% to 3rd.  Weigh in will be at 3 PM.  I have attached the entry form and rules to this thread.  If you would like to mail your entry in early, PM me and I can provide you with my address.  I removed the 25 boat rule from the regs as we are allowed to have 75 by law.  Please try to bring your own signed entry form to the tournament if at all possible.  I will bring extras but it is tough to bring enough for everyone.  If you have any questions, shoot me a PM.  As it is every year, this tournament should be a blast and the fishing should be excellent!  Hope to see all of you there that can make it!

It appears that the boat inspections will cost $5 per boat as Joe posted.  Please come prepared to pay $5 and have your boat inspected.  It sounds like it doesn't matter how hard we try, we will be pressing our luck at hoping to have the gate open earlier than 5 AM so lets plan on registration beginning then.  I will try to get everyone registered ASAP.  Also, please make sure everything (compartments, livewells, bilge, etc.) in your boat is COMPLETELY DRY when you show up.  I would hate for the city to turn someone away. It would be kind of fun to pull a prank on them but and have some fake mussels or something in a livewell but it might be best to play it extra cautious this first go around until we get a sense of what we're dealing with.

Clarification on issues that have come up in the past, these will be handled at my discretion:

1)  Each team will be allowed one re weigh.  If you choose to re weigh, you must take your second weight regardless of what it turns out to be.

2) Carbureted two stroke outboards are not allowed on Lake Whatcom.  You are allowed to have one on your boat and only run your trolling motor however.  Therefore, Borderline will not tell someone whether or not they can fish based on their outboard.  Also, it is impossible for me personally to watch everyone so I will not take any protests involving people saying someone was running an illegal outboard.  However, if you do run a carbureted two stroke motor, you are subject to being written a ticket.  There was no one on the lake enforcing this law last year but I cannot gaurantee this will be the case again this year.  I haven't heard any news on whether they will be enforcing this law this year.  If you do run a carbureted two stroke motor, understand that you are doing so AT YOUR OWN RISK.  Borderline will not assume any responsibility if you are written a ticket.

3) Off limits - Off limits to competitors start on Monday, April 22nd and run through Friday, April 26th.  5 days prior to the event are off limits.

4)  There is a 40 mph speed limit on the lake.  Again, we are not able to enforce this but you are subject to being written a ticket if you travel faster.

5)  Please Check the new regs as I made some revisions.

Please note that I made two revisions to my original post.  Boat inspections will cost $5 per boat (unless you have already purchased your annual pass).  Also, I am adjusting the payout to 50 % for first place, 30 % for second and 20 % for third.  I feel this will be more fair to the angler that outdoes everyone and places first while still allowing third to make some money in addition to their entry fee back.

Tomorrow's the day! I will be there at 4:30 AM getting everything together.  It turns out that you will not need to have $5 for the inspection.  They are going to invoice our club based on how many people enter.  See you in the AM!

Thanks for holding the tournament guys dispite the inspection fee and harrasment from the city. Chris and I had a great time fishing and talking with everyone even with the horrible weather in the afternoon.

Thanks to everyone that showed up and helped make the open a success again this year!  Thanks to Joe Boyd for all of the hard work to get us out of the original inspection process.  Also thanks to Bob and John from Borderline for showing the city how to properly inspect boats.  Hopefully this will make them feel good enough to let us continue to run our own inspections when it comes to tournaments.  Also, thanks to Dana Steiner for investigating and taking notes to relay on everything that happened.  Lots of good stuff on Saturday!  The fishing also seemed to be quite favorable this year!  Well for 2-3 lbers at least!  Only one boat didn't show up at weigh in out of 15.  12 of 15 boats weighed in over 10 lbs.  Good fishing!  Robert and I had a blast and didn't mind the weather one bit. The fish kept biting all day and it was fun times!  Big congrats to Nick Berto and Chris Ferry on an awesome bag of fish.  Below are the complete results for everyone that weighed fish.

1.  Nick Berto/Chris Ferry  5 fish 20.39 lbs.  Also big fish of the tournament at 5.17 lbs.

2.  Bill Smith/Ron Helvey 5 fish 17.96 lbs

3.  Erik Faiola/Jason Nielsen 5 fish 16.85 lbs.

4.  David Parnicky/Robert Mann 5 fish 16.05 lbs

5.  Matt Johnson/Tyler Carlson 5 fish 15.46 lbs

6.  Tony Lofranco/Mike Robinson 5 fish 15.40 lbs

7.  Sun Butma/Thongpun 5 fish 14.59 lbs

8.  Matt Krumdiak/Charlie Cardwell 5 fish 14.52 lbs

9.  Tha Khun/Kun Butma 5 fish 14.39 lbs.

10.  Brandon Thomas/Bill Ducker 5 fish 13.34 lbs

11.  Robert Gray/Camden Tott 5 fish 11.19 lbs

12.  Chris Mulch/Tito Montemor 4 fish 10.60 lbs

13.  Bill Caldwell/ Bill Borestky  4 fish 8.37 lbs

14.  Rich Pratt/Chris Rote  2 fish 4.35 lbs

Also, Borderline has a permit for June 8th on Lake Whatcom that we normally use to host a tournament for the employees of Woodstone in Bellingham as a fundraiser. They can't participate this year so we are thinking of holding a third open tournament on June 8th this year. We have no other use for the permit so we figure we might as well. Not sure if anyone will show up? Just throwing the idea out there. If the Woodstone isn't going to happen anymore, I am going to start applying for a date during the summer (July or August) to have a third open on. I think this would yield very interesting results!
A summer open sound nice. Great tournament David. Tah and I had blast. I'm looking forward to the next one.
We have another permit for August 4th. I think instead of June 8th, I am going to attempt to make August 4th an open tournament. I will post more info closer to that date.
