Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I've found swimbait fishing to be getting expensive, and although I have not hung a hudd or swimbait (looking to get a mattlures hardgill in the future) up yet, I would hate to buy one and do so. Does anyone have any recommendations on what brand/ type of retriever works the best for big baits?
Anything is appreciated,
Thanks,
Logan

Will literally save you hundreds and hundreds of dollars. If you're not hanging up swimbaits at a lot of these lakes at certain times of the year, you're not fishing in the right areas. I had a day where I hung up an ROF12 Huddleston 20+ times on deep timber and retrieved them all. That's over $500 saved in one day. You can attach this to a retractable dog leash to keep it organized.
Thanks Tag

Bassmaster mag had a little article on how to make your our lure retriever.  It was just a 5-6 oz weight with some heavy chain links attached, like 3 different lengths, 4-5 inch lengths.  They were attached to a big split ring that had a heavy duty swivel attached that you hooked to your line to slide down and hook to your snagged bait.  Anyone ever make their own?  I like the idea of the dog leash, didn't think of that.

My set up is just the same as Tag's. My leash is only 25 ft. Figured that would be plenty since I don't have electronics and don't normally fish all that deep. But I've found that since I have started throwing swimbaits this year I am fishing deeper. And 25 ft doesn't cover drift. Wish I had a little more length on the leash is what I'm trying to say. Saved my 68 four times the other day...

I use a 44 mag lure retriever tied to a chalk line reel that I put new line on.  I also keep a 3-4 ounce pyramid weight w/ a clip on it that works most times.  Between the two I get most everything back.  I have saved a lot of money over the years using these two.

I have seen guys using an old spark plug but never tried it.

Another thing I've heard works (I've never tried it), is a Whisk that you'd find in a kitchen.  you can buy them at the dollar store....

Macs Lure retriever best there is!!!

I have a Go-Get-It. I would not recommend it. You are better off without it. The retriever tends to clip the line before it makes it down to the bait. It actually doubles as a push pole which is the only reason it is still in my boat, but it really doesnt make a good push pole either. I really need to get that thing out of my boat, thanks for the reminder...

I have used the knockers before and they are a much better deal than the pole I think.
