Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I got this idea from George Kramer http://kramergonefishing.com/2012/11/12/top-40-meyer-rated-californ... and I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone thought of the guys here in Washington State, voted by other fishermen though, not just by one person so the results are not subjective.

So here's how we'll do it:

  • Since Washington tournaments are so team oriented we'll go with the best teams for now.
  • If the guy you had in mind is not an angler in NWB or ABA, or other opens where teammates are needed send your ranking for just the one guy.
  • Send me your top 5, 10, 15, 20 (however many you want really) teams or guys in Washington State
  • Feel free to include a quick justification of why that team deserves it
  • Send me a Message with your rankings or reply to this thread

I will keep track of all the submissions and combine the results and post the top 20 here on WAFISH in a couple weeks when I have enough information.

In my opinion a great team is a team that can adapt to any lake any time of the year under any set of circumstances. I don't want to throw anyone under the bus, but I question some of the picks. Some teams haven't proven themselves long enough, or haven't done it under a vast array of circumstances. Keep in mind the NWBASS schedule doesn't change much. I agree with Jordan there is probably only a few teams that are really "better than the rest". There are a lot of variables that can make anglers good along the road. Having a mentor, joining a club, working at a sporting goods store, having limited obligations allowing them to fish frequently, age, sponsorship, and health to name a few. What about all the "club" sticks that don't fish money tournaments? Ralph Lewis, who is part of our club catches fish everywhere he goes, yet I doubt 95% of the site members know who he is. So far, I would say Jake's list is spot on!

i agree with Chad, Jake, Jordan as well..

there are the stand out team/s but hobbs/wolsky have to be on the top(just my opinion). you can go on and on why one team is better than another or why they are high on your list or not even on your list. there is so many good fisherman/and fishergals in this state that at anytime it could be there time. as chad pointed out there are fisherman that just fun fish that i know are top notch guys and can go put a hurt on some fish when they are out. putting a list of top anglers in the state should probably come from current tourny anglers in the tournies at the time or how else can you put a list together of anglers not competing. you have nothing to compare them with. again just my two cents. but from my first NWB tourny to the last one we fished a few years ago each and everyone i would be in awe of teams and say their names to my partner saying oh hell they are here and we are going to have to stick some fish to make the cut line. (which at that point Rob would tell me to shut the hell up) in not those nice of words. i agree with others in saying this state puts out some great fisherman since we have such a variety in my opinion of waters to fish.  so in closing after all that hobbs/wolsky and then from there you can put whoever you want cuz at anytime they can be on top for a time or two just enough to kick those guys on the top down a bit.. but they never stay down they always come back to the top.  hope everyone has a great tourny season or fun fishing.

OK - there's a joke in here somewhere.....

The teams that have proven themselves on both sides of the mountain recently is how I'm justifying my rankings. It's easy to be a local stick. It's difficult to win on nuMerous bodies of water. I know some teams are split, with one easterner, and one westerner, and that was taken into consideration.
Hobbs/Wolsky ......no contest hands down the best
The rest in no order:
Gemmill/McMannis
Smith/Jensen
Doucet/Eidson
Simon/Simon
Marcantonio/Matkowski
Abbott/Flowers
Lind/Lochow
Lowe/Librande
Bess/Sessler

Best Teams in the State I would rank as follows and I'm only going to list a few and the criteria I used:

Hobbs/Wolsky - Duh!

Chandler/Potter - Both wickedly funny in completely different ways, and love to have a cocktail (or too many the night before a tournament).

Priester/Stiles - Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis, Archie/Edith, Peanut Butter and Jelly - you get the picture.

Broberg/Minderman - Nobody gets more excited for a tournament (or dinner) than Broberg

Hall/Turner - Always ready to bust your chops or call you gay!

Steiner/Lacey - Anyone who shares my political beliefs in lock step.....how can I leave him off the list? Also they've probably finished 2nd in more championships than any other team.

Marcantoinio/__________ - He's got the best tournament jersey.

Batey/Ratchford - Know how to pull up 100yds downriver (the spot you THOUGHT you were on) and whack 5 fish in 5 casts.

Houge/Brown/Lehrman - He fished the Classic and has won numerous boats on the River too much knowledge in one head.

Abbott/Flowers - Back to Back boats on two different bodies of water. They are on the decline however, as they have or are about to have children (the great equalizer).

Snake/Zach - Only know Snake via WAFISH, but probably the best active poster (I really miss Misanthrope)

Jon,

Probably, if not real close to being one of the best complements I have ever received!!

Stilen

I'm going to do it a little different.

Here's my top 25 of all time, going back over the last 20 years. (sorry I'm old) no order. Sorry but some of these people are why we are tournament fishing today!

Nixon

Boyer

Roberts

Batey

Ratchford

Lind

Hall

Broberg

Semkin

Krom

Echternkamp

Clausen

Marcantonio

Matkowski

Pelletier

Lippincott

Treffry

McConville

Hogue

Lehrman

Hobbs

Mace

Steiner

Semken

Minderman

These guys are not area code boys as a hold and there are 4 Classic qualifiers in the mix and a bunch of AOY titles and past WA State Champions.....

Good post!!! Miss these

There is absolutely no joke in that post Jon.

It is great to see some of the old names up there and despite some of them being before my time I have still heard their names thrown around. I also heard that Dennis/Blake Brush were flat out dominating at one point on the westside at least.

For the sake of this post however I'd like to focus on current teams.

Petroski/Brush were dominate for years on Washington and Sammamish. Dennis and his son fished together for a couple years, and they were good too. What about Clark/slippy, delay/moss, kenworthy/Duncan, eckstrom/grafe, exc....

I'm related through marriage to Michael Savage.  If you have room for a 3rd I can get him and a mic on board.  Could be good radio....he tells me he's not bad with a 4.5 inch berkley power worm.  Kind of old school, but he has the pics....
