Washington Fishing

I'd just like some input on what guys would be throwing at Duck lake if they were fishing it this weekend. I'll be there this weekend, and have only fished it in May, never in post spawn, and also not since they killed off all the Elodea, I think it was last year. I haven't fished it in about 3-4 years. Blue/black senkos and white spinner baits in cover were the order of the day for May a few years back.

I'd also like to hear guys recommendations/experiences when fishing a lake that has had its vegetation drastically reduced. Where do the fish move, in a lake that is primarily shallow like Duck?

My guess is that they will move to the remaining available cover. Shoreline cover and docks should be the ticket. Who knows, the fish may be easier to find and pattern since their options have been reduced.

I would try, in this order: buzzbait, frog, jig, spinnerbait, Senko, shallow crank, your favorite plastics, and maybe a swimbait like a Mattlures Hard Crappie (slow sink or floater, it's your call)

Let us know how it works out Steve.
I've had good luck in the past with crankbaits in the main lake, and the canals, or topwater in the morning/evening. A 5 in. Yamamoto single tail grub has produced well for me too. No particular color other than dark, rigged either weedless or on a jighead. I haven't fished it since the weed kill though. Lots of cattails in the canals that the fish might relate to. I love that lake. Good luck
Ya can't go wrong with a spinner bait, I've found charteuse and white , actually white skirt with a charteuse trailer, seem to produce best for me on this lake. Main lake and slow roll the spinner bait, tick the weeds then pop the spinner bait.
fish the bridge's and docks thats all that is left in the lake. Friend of mine was down there two weekago and said it sucked so good luck steve. By the way there is still reeds in the lake so you can alway flip those.
So for anyone interested. Our Club was down there in 2005 and the top 8 teams ranged from 21-31lbs over a day and half of fishing. Saturday we held our Jack n Jill about 35 anglers in 12 boats and only 12 total fish caught, 4 of which was by one team. The club team tournament was Sunday and only 10 fish caught from 14 boats, again 4 of which was caught by one team. The lake has change dramatically. I saw a total of 5-6 lillie pad clumps none of which was bigger than 10 feet across, I threw a rattle trap and pulled up only sticks, no grass. Lots of light sandy bottom. It probably going to take quite some time for this lake to come back. I would not recommend even wasting your time.
