The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

im fairly new to bass fishing. i did a bit when i was a kid with my dad but he quit going. until last saturday i had some gear that was about 25 years old. i just bought a shimano curado on a cabelas mag tough 6'6" mh rod. ive got a few spinnerbaits, some odds and ends of dads old plastics, a couple buzzbaits, and so on and so on. what are the best lakes to fish in western washington to learn on? ive been on st. clair, long lake, munn, patterson, and black lake. any advice on gear would be nice too thnx for the help!

All that has been suggested is good stuff.
One item, never over look. Chatter baits!
Don't get much notority, but they catch fish.
Check out www.madbassbaits.com > custom made and are an Eastern Washington company.

Hey Josh, I haven't fished as far South as you have in Western Washington. Any plastics in smoke, green pumpkin, watermelon, or sand colors will catch smallmouth in clear water. Reaction baits tend to catch bigger fish more consistently but plastics are the easiest way to start in my opinion as you will gain confidence more quickly. Jigs and Senkos will catch their share of LM. The same colors will catch LM in clear water plus you can never rule out black and blue in any water color or chartruse if there is some color in the water. Just get out there, spend some time on the water and gain some confidence in a few techniques. Then start trying to expand the number of techniques you feel confident in. That would be my best suggestion on how to get started.
ive been using a 3/4 oz. rattling jig black/blue and a watermelon w/ chartruce tail senko for the most part. once in a while i will throw a black/red midnight special spinnerbait. but your right every time i go to a lake i learn new things. where the fish are, the cover they like, and how to untangle a birds nest from my reel hahaha
Josh, if you are really serious about learning to fish for bass in your area, join a club. You will learn more in a day with most club guys than you can learn in a month of fishing by yourself everyday. Serious, do it. There are plenty around to choose from too. I am a member of the Puyallup Hawg HUnters. We are more of a competitive club focusing on tournaments, but other clubs in your area might not be as serious which could make a good learning environment also.
And hey, there is a video on this site for drop shotting that Nick Barr did a good job on. Just click videos, and it is twards the bottom.
Josh, Where do you live?

Nick Barr did some really great bass fishing videos.
Rainier Bass Club does a lot of events in the Olympia area, they will be doing a Kids Casting Clinic at Cabela's this Saturday morning.

There is some very good information you guys listed out here. Even though I didn't start this thread, I still feel like a bass fishing newbie. The sometimes overwhelming amount of information is one thing that is great about the site. Thanks!
My best advice to a rookie. Learn to drop shot. I live in Lacey and fish all the same lakes. But not munn lake. I'm also a member of Capital City Bass Club. Riffe lake, Lake Washington, Banks Lake would be my picks for learning on. P.S. Long Lake and Black Lake are great lakes to fish during the spawn!!
