I agree, it will be Wolsky but I think Hobbs has a pretty good chance.
What does Tom Edwards think though?

That hasn't slowed you down so far.

lI agree with Marc in that Don shouldn't be afraid of moving to find fish. Lay is interesting in that the upper portion is essentially a narrow river while the lower portion is a flooded valley with creek channels and cuts. I haven't fished Lay but I've fished the next reservoir downstream (Mitchell) quite a few times. Mark's Outdoors in Birmingham plants a number of fingerling FL strain LMB in Lay every year so I expect that Lay has a greater LMB population than Mitchell. My guess is that Mitchell has 10 spotted bass for every 1 LMB.
The Coosa River impoundments can be difficult to fish if you have a tournament that includes a couple of weekdays and then the weekend. Current is the key and it all depends on how much electricity Alabama Power needs to generate and/or how much excess water they need to let through the gates. It isn't uncommon to identify a current based pattern during the week and when you get to the weekend they aren't generating or releasing any water. I haven't followed the weather lately but if the water is cold it will be an interesting decision for the anglers to determine if they want to go with spots or LMB. LMB will give you bigger fish but the spots will be more active in the colder water. The downside (at least for me) has been that current is the key to being able to find spots consistently which means you could be gambling on Alabama Power. There is a minor downside to chasing spots which is schools of wipers/hybrids (white bass x striped bass). I haven't been able to distinguish whether it is spots or wipers/hybrids tearing through a school of shad on the electronics.
Assuming the water is cold, punching & flipping will be the way to go for the LMB. The "grass" has died back to the water surface so there will be a lot of floating dead vegetation over the weedbeds. The grass has a tough stem so I would go with a punching rig to allow you to get the bait down where you want it. The grass is limited to water ~6 feet deep or less which generally means on Mitchell that the grass beds don't extend too far from the bank due the steep topography. My buddy said that Lay has a lot more timber than Mitchell (which is why they used to ski/tube on Mitchell) so the combination of grass and timber provide lots of cover to explore.
I hope Don has an enjoyable and successful tournament. Lay will provide a challenge and learning experience for him.
Tell that to jordan, HE is the one to call a halt to all the CRAP that is on this website. Stop the CRAP, and the fishing info and fun will continue.
