Congrats to Nick Berto and Chris Ferry for 1st place and all others for a great showing. I hope it wasn't raining as bad up there as it did here for a while.
Hey David,

I'm sure none of the anglers hold anything against you or the Borderline Bassin Contenders. You and everyone else in your club are GREAT guys. I am positive that you gave it your best effort despite the challenges you experienced with the scale. Sometimes electronic equipment just acts up. We have all had issues with computers, TV's, cell phones, gadgets, etc. It happens.

Like Joel, I am bummed to have missed this one. It is always a fun event and the fishing is phenomenal. Congrats to Nick and Chris on the win!

First off, I want to say that this was the first tournament I have run as tournament director and it was a learning experience to say the least. The scale appeared to be weighing light which caused some issues and a line back up at weigh in. I got kind of overwhelmed by that and didn't really know what to do about it and i feel like I caused some problems because of this. I feel pretty bad about my performance as tournament director for this one. I apologize to everyone and hope you still had fun! I am working on and testing the scale and I promise to do a much better job and be much more organized next time!!

18 boats showed up. 1st place went to Nick Berto and Chris ferry with a 19.16 pound bag despite the scale issues!! 2nd place went to Bill Smith and Kieth Helvey with with a 17.60 pound bag! 3rd place and big fish went to Bob Mustappa and Casey Hahr with 14.81 pounds and a big fish of 4.31 lbs. Again this fish was probably larger in actuality. I think and hope the scale was at least weighing consistently between teams but it did appear to be weighing light. Congrats to all who did well!! There were some awesome fish brought in!

Again, I apologize for any of my blunders trying to run this tournament. I do think I learned a lot about how I could have done things differently and I absolutely promise to do a better job next time! Please don't hold anything against Borderline Bassin Contenders as the Whatcom Opens are normally run very smoothly, this was just my inexperience as a tournament director showing. Thanks and I hope you all had a fun day on the lake!

David,
I thought you did a fine job yesterday considering what you were up against. In addition, I wouldn't give 2 shits for the way a couple of people acted at the weigh in. It was obvious who the top 3 teams were.
I had a great time and a great day fishing. The weather was off and on all day, just like the bite.

No worries about everything Dave, we could all see their was issues with the scales and there was nothing you could do about it right then. The scales were pretty light but oh well!

You did fine, David. I agree, the weights looked light, but they were consistent , so that wasn't really an issue for me. I think the tournament was well run, and I liked the way you guys stopped the rain just before the weigh-in! We had about three pounds of crawfish parts in the livewell, but I don't think that would have helped us much.

That boat has brought nothing but awsome-ness! Not that you didnt catch a boat load of hawgs everytime out before the boat! Great job Nick and Chris . Great looking fish.

Bring back the Stash!
Dave I didn't fish the tournament but I drove up from Oak Harbor to watch the weigh-in. You did nothing wrong and you shouldn't feel bad about the job you did. It was not your falt that the scale you used was so hokey. Maybe next year the club should invest in a better scale. I did however fish on Sunday and cought 10 hawgs. Had a great day on the lake.

Thanks. The boat has been and i think will continue to be pretty awesome...

The fish were all different shapes and sizes. We had some that were long and thick while others were short and just HUGE around the gut, it made culling and figuring out which ones to keep hard but I think we figures it out. My next purchase will definitly be a Cul-M-Rite suggested by Chris...

And NO on the stash there Jake, lol...

I tested the scale yesterday on various items I had around the house and it seemed to be working fine last night. A 51.7 oz. unopened bottle of mouthwash weighed 3.15 lbs. A 6 oz. swimbait weighed .38 lbs. Everything I weighed was almost dead on. The scale seemed to be working flawlessly last night. I changed the batteries just to be safe. I think the biggest problem was that I allowed people to re weigh as many times as they wanted. This October, the scale will be dead on and everyone will be allowed only 1 re weigh. Whatever the weight is of the re weigh, whether it is lighter or heavier, will be the weight that team is forced to accept as their final weight. I learned that is the only way to keep the lines at weigh in moving and things functioning properly.
