Way to go Jordan and Chris Rider who I believe were the only ones to catch a limit of LM on day one.

Very Nice. Bring home the bacon boys.
Good Job Jordan....It was tough for us and sounds like a bunch of other people !

I also heard that the top 10 was made up of people who had not been in the top ten there before !

I guess if you win, maybe we can get more shirts, and stickers made up ? LOL

It was tough. The two week off limits and gag rule made it tough. I had fished the lake before it went off limits. The water was lait to come up. I wasn't sure why we were struggling catching LM before the off limits. We flipped like crazy on Saturday. We caught one over 6 right off the bat, and never got touched by a LM. If I would have known how tough the LM bite was I would have gone SM fishing. I would say a good portion of the top ten was made up of SM with maybe a LM mixed in. Most of the guys who targeted LM struggled, with the exception of Jordan and Chris.

After the weigh in I was finaly able to talk to my friends who have been fishing the lake. They said they have really struggled on the LM, ussually fishing all afternoon for 1 or 2 fish. I truely believe we are seeing a 2-5 year period, maybe even longer, that Moses is going to suck as a fishery. There are very few 1-3 pound fish out there, and think we are witnesing a crash of the big fish. The SM not quiet as bad, but not what it was.

Jordan wasn't able to talk about fishing. He and a few other guys were staying at my place. Chad and I wanted to tell him to go catch SM tomorrow, but we couldn't say anything. We wil see how they do. As much as I would like to see them win my prediction is the SM guys will do well. I know Dick and Levi were on a good pattern.
I think the turbulant weather had a lot more to do with the crappy fishing than anything else metioned. I can tell you that there were a couple of steady weather periods before the off limits and I absolutely smashed them during those times. I also know of several other guys that did the same. I personaly believe the 2 week off limits could have had nothing but a positive affect on the fishing. There are 5 or 6 community spots on that lake that can and have produced multiple 20 pound bags and 78 out of the 79 boats know about them. I think if the weather we had at the end of March had continued we would have seen the brawl we had the first year.

I'm not pretending to have 10 years of bass fishing experience...far from it but I have never fished a lake that was more tempermental to weather than Moses. I dont know what the weather has been like on the West side but we haven't had a steady week of weather on the East side in 3 weeks. It got really warm quick and early and it has been sketchy ever since. Another fisherman told me that he found a few fanned out beds but the fish had abandon them. I'm certainly not saying that no one found an active school or a handful of LM that stayed up during this crap but in general it was tougher.
I don't think that Moses will be in that "2-5 year" period as a sucky fishery......The quality is there and quantity is too. I do not believe that it could be fished out. Sounds like the off-limits was followed and obeyed ...which is a plus, and the idiots that were planning on raiding it the week before, ( non-competitors)were blown off the water or didn't go because of peer pressure.

Spring is a time of year that the fish get very finicky and tempermental and moody. They are more sensitive to weather and other conditions when they are thinking about doing the horizontal slap and tickle ( spawn).

It also isnt easy on the fishermen......

Hi guys, just left the lake after a long struggle with the wind. Chris and I feel pretty lucky to ave stumbled across the fish like we did on saturday. We had a solid bag with 2 5lbers, 2 3lbers and a 2.5lber. our fish came on a combo of spinnerbaits and jigs.

Unfortunately day 2 didnt treat us very kind at all. We decided to swing for the fences and stick with the largemouth. That didnt pan out and by the time we made the call to try to catch smallmouth it was real windy and tough to fish.

Big congrats the Joel Grafe and Rob Eckstrom on the win. they weighed 20.2lbs of SM and had a 7.28lber!

Very good tournament again. Thank you stilen and priester for everything you did this year. Looking forward to next.
So just let me get this straight before I comment...Jeff your implying that if a guy is not in the tournement he still shouldnt fish the lake during the off limits period just because their is a fututure upcoming tournament. If thats your stance boy do I have some comments for you.......

On another note big congrats to all the guys that did well. Very glad to see Jordan and Chris smoke em on day one unfortuantly day 2 was tougher for them but great job to the guys that figured it out.

I too feel like the largemouth fishing in moses is on a downslide to a point. Between the pressure and a lack of a huge population base of lmb's in the lake I think we are going to see if fall off even more for a while.

I will clarify,.

It is a free country and off limits is designed for tournament competitors. I was referring to "specific" idiots that deliberately go out on Lakes the day or two before a Tournament. I know a few personally that intentionally do it to fish water that they know will be fished during the tournament. I have had some personal experience with this.

Believe it or not, there are guys who really do it. I understand that a few people aren't gona affect the whole Lake, but how would you feel if a guy called you and told you {after the weekend} that " oh, by the way....I went last Friday and Whacked some big fish" and you knew that it was probably exactly where you and he had fished before. With 10 grand on the line.....it wouldn't sit very well.

Fish wherever and whenever you want,

All I meant by my first remark, was that the weather in Moses has been the same for over a week and the majority of "weekend" anglers...or people that have to travel a ways, are not gonna do it in crappy weather.

Ummm Chad, does a person named Brad sound like this. I was telling Billy I had a feeling he fished one of the spots I fished. I obviously couldn't ask, and I told him not too, but I could tell by facial expressions that he wouldn't feel bad about it. He was even talking about getting up early and beating people out to spots. I was like that is weird. I am sure that there are many others out there.
Jeff,
Thanks for clarifying your point. I totally agree with what your saying. I thought you were refering anyone not in the tournment fishing during the off limits. The situtation you detailed definetly deserving of the name idiots.

Your also absolutly right the weather for the last week has kept a majority of boats regardless of their intentions off the lake.

Condrads to Jordan and Chris, great job guys! The wind made the tourney tough for us! Parnicky and I started off on the south end and it was actually fairly calm. We were next to Hogue and watched him catch fish after fish in the morning as we struggled. We then ran into the canals, fished for an hour before deciding that we had to move. We made a run all the way up north and the wind was HOWLLEN!! We managed two fish up there but the wind made it almost impossible to fish. We broke a lot of stuff, it looked like a Chinese fire drill in Parnickys boat=) We ran for shelter and went back down south to finish the day where we got out last fish. We ended up weighing 3 fish for 8 and change. I can honestly say I struggled, if it wasn’t for my partner we wouldn’t have hardly weighed a thing! On my fifth cast of the morning I hooked a fish on a crank that came off on the boat, later that day I hooked a fish on a footballhead that also came off at the boat. I finally managed a small fish toward the end of the day on a crank. The wind made it difficult to detect strikes and keep the fish pinned. Congrads to Joel Grafe and Rob Eckstrom on the win, I wish I could have seen that 7.28lb Smallie!!!
That 7.28lb smallie was a pig! I thought it was a carp at first sight! My partner Shawn O'Connell and I managed to weigh in 16.92 on day 1, good enough to qualify for sunday in 6th place. We targeted strictly smallmouth, getting them on a mix of baits(swimbaits, dropshot and a couple on football heads with a hula grub.) We were pretty stoked to fish on sunday, and ended up in 5th with just under 13lbs. Congrats to Grafe and Eckstrom. That was an impressive bag they brought up to the scales.
