Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

So I got a call a couple of days ago from the Sportsman Show guys.  He wanted to know if I could do the seminar's again and also asked about Ron Hobb's and Marc Marcantonio's availability.

So my question is what would you guys like to hear from us.  I planned on doing 2 seminar's.  One on winter bass fishing on Washington / Sammamish and one on finesse rigs. Neko, Zip, Flick shake etc.  Are their other topic's that the guys want to hear about this year?

Oh your his girlfriend, I was starting to wonder about him!

Since your his Campaign manager of the sorts and you brought it to my attention that he has won, which tournaments did Nick win....yes this is a test, get it wrong Nick may fire you and then you will have to go back to just the plain ol girlfriend without the other title of Campaign Manager and Body Guard. J/J it doesn't really matter anyway, if you did, you might as well just post his whole resume.

Good Luck, but I think Nick speaks very well for himself , but its always fun to see a reply that has a bit of spice in....Good Job! It keeps wafish alive!

Actually I'm his girlfriend. But I do campaign work for him, too.

And just to bring it to your attention, he has won tournaments.

And none of that was directed at you. It was at Craig because he's a d***

I am sorry, it is Craigs opinion and my opinion that Nick is not a proffessional fisherman. No disrespect to Nick he tries hard, and he is a very nice young man, but he is not a pro, he is an amateur writer, and an amateur fisherman.

He writes mostly for Bass Anglers Guide which publishes just about anything, and doesn't pay most of the writers. I have never seen Nick fishing any Proffessional Level tournaments, and have not seen him win or come close to winning any local money events. Nick is a good young man, but in order for me to think of him as a pro or to even consider it, he must prove himself as a fisherman just not a promoter. Credibilty is earned and not given.

Anyone can have a fishing business, a business license is easy to come buy, Its just a couple clicks of a mouse. This does not qualify you as a Pro, it qualifies you as a business owner, maybe of a failing business, maybe a thriving one.

Jessica.... your probably right I am a little jealous of Nick as well, but at his age I had already won a Federation State Qualifier (Amateur Event) an Angler of the Year award for American Bass Assoc. and probably a few more tournament wins other than just for a small club. On second thought why would I be jealous?

I was just wondering are you Nick's Mother? If you are, good for you to come on her to protect your son, I have much respect for that. If not his mother are you his girlfriend?

Jessica Lynn Townshend said:
Excuse me? Is someone else jealous, too?

Do YOU have a bass business? I think not.

Nick does. Get some.

If you mean "pro"... No he's not

I believe you are talking about Nick Barr, and he is a bro fisherman as well.

i attended some of these last year and remember most of them were just regurgetations of articles that i have read in Bassmaster
I don't remember names but do remember a few items that seemed off. One was there was a kid no more than 20 who spoke as if he had 50 years of experiience, which was not credible to me.
the other was someone was talking about using a swivel on a dropshot rig, however, Aaron Martens (who practically introdued this technique to the US) never uses a swivel on the video he released about dropshotting, and i have never seen a swivel on Bassmasters or FLW shows either.
I'm just not sure these seminars are providing sound techniques or just someone's opinion.
How do I tell the differnce between the two?
I live in the Buttes! My company also delivers to Olympia, I will sign you up and then you can have your very own Milkman!

I wouldn't have expected less from you on this post. Great post, I was just wondering why some girl was fighting for you but now I understand. Has anyone read anything about VanDams wife.....I think Nick is trying to get set up like him!

I know her post was not directed at me but just because someone says that someone else is not a pro does not make them a jealous person, I do know that Craig has it out for you but I think in this post he kept his comments civil. It was her that took it to that personal level.

I do stand by what I said, I do not take any of it back, I know you will be succesful in the industry, and I think you are a great promoter and representative of our sport. I wish I had half the energy that you do to promote yourself, if I did I probably wouldn't be delivering milk!

Behind or beside every strong man is a strong woman.

Ron, sorry if you interpeted it wrong, Jessica was in no way talking about you. I actually have talked about you before to her.

She was however talking about a fellow I'd rather not talk about (but i'm going to have to) who has always been negative towards me since I started. I have been nothing but positive to everyone I have met in the Bass Fishing community yet I always have one person who is negative, does it bother me? Not one bit. I am proud of what I have done in and for the PNW bass fishing community and stuck my neck out there for us bass anglers to grow our sport. I work my ass off constantly whether its actual fishing, promoting our sport, to running the EWU Fishing n Hunting Club. I love this sport and will continue to strive towards it as a full time career choice. We were quite similar actually, we both had articles written in the Olympian about us when we were younger (those were some toad smallies out of Offut Lake there CT), our parents actually work together. I do commend him on making it to the Stren Championship. He even took me golfing when I was little. I won't allow myself to go into anything negative because even though i'm only 19 years old, I still believe in staying civil and acting your age, along with staying positive.

Ron, You are one of my idols, and I wish I had half the talent you do, every day I work on getting better so I can be at the level you are at one day. I wish I had a mentor and progression you had by my age. Am I a pro compared to you or your level? Hell no i'm not.

Am I a Pro? Thats up for anyone to think, and for me to not care about, like Marc said, beating a dead horse on to what that really means. Do I care if you think I am pro or not? Nope. I consider myself Semi-Professional, I am a professional guide, in which I did actually run a successful, money making, guide business last year (somewhat to even my surprise) and look forward to this years season. Do I promote and represent some of the best fishing companies that I love and even get paid by a few, yes. I love what I do and someday wish to make it my only career option, whether its by fishing tournaments, guiding, being a marketing rep, running my own youth outdoors camp, tv show, or whatever. Do I wish I was a better tournament angler? Yes, and will always continue to work on it to the best of my ability.

About the credibility of seminars, Fishing is a sport where you can learn from anyone. Ask my friend Tommy, he has never owned a boat but fishes the montlake cut from shore, catching pigs, and teaches everyone a lesson. Some of you may know him. I am confident in what I am saying on stage and wouldnt be up there if I didnt. Lying or making up stuff period gets you nowhere in life, only lowers yourself as a human being.

If you think anything is regurgatated it is, from some of the best sticks in the NW. I would say most of my base knowledge comes from trying to pick Ron, Tag's and Marc's brains.

Most of the anglers in the NW are Salmon and Steelhead guys, so even a more toned down seminar is appropriate for up here. Its about GROWING our sport in Washington and slowly but surely luring over those Salmonid anglers. I can't tell you how many SS anglers come up to me while i'm working at OE asking to learn to bass fish. Whether its getting young kids involved or luring over other anglers, thats what the warmwater tank is all about.

By the way, they have a tough time filling all the seminar slots at the show because for the most part it is a volunteer Job, I can have them contact you Pat, but idk how you'd feel fishing in a tank talking to a bunch of beginner bass angler "coasties".
AWESOME!

I know Nick is super nice, and I have stuck up for him a fare amount of times along with many others, if nothing was said the post would've been dead but now we have over 100 comments!
Opinions are opinions if we thought they were wrong we would never post them. I am right and you are wrong!!LOL

Ron, none of that was directed at you. I'm just sticking up for Nick. He's too nice to tell people how it is and I don't like seeing him get walked all over. Yeah, I put things on a personal level. But I did it for a reason. I don't care what anyone on here says. In my opinion, Nick is a professional and Pat and Craig are wrong. And in my opinion, I'm right. :)
Jessica, are you Sicilian? (that is a compliment in my book...)

ciao,
Marc

I do all my own marketing, but Jessica did have an amazing Sportsmen Show marketing campaign...lol

Her and her friend, both very well gifted, decided to make NickBarrFishing.com Low Cut-V t-shirts and walk around the sportsmen show. You should have seen my website blow up with old creepy men...haha

I actually got a few trips off of that
Marc is Italian, I'm betting Sicilian is gotta be something good from Sicily.
ehhh..i'm trying to study for my econ final, but what the hell, might as well...haha
Ya know. I don't really have a dog in this fight, but I have to add. I saw the seminars at last years Puyallup show and took quite a bit of info from all of the speakers. All I can say is thank you to all. As far as Nick...I wish I had that fire and ambition when I was at his age. I wish him well. Perhaps we can all take look at him and learn. Isn't it after all, fishing? Can't we all learn from one another and strive to be better at what we do.....fish. Just a thought.
not to stir the pot but Ron and Craig agree therfore if you attack Craigs opinion you are atacking ron as well
well maybe i am stirring the pot

a little

In bass fishing everyone always talk about the pattern. Well I notice a pattern on this site!!!!

Someone post a topic. Then there are two or three serious answer. Next there come a troll to do hijacking of the thread or how Pat say stir the pot. Usually the pot stirring for some reason bring good post out of the woodworking, like Marc or Ron or Don. Then everyone agree with them because they make many valid point. Then Parnicky make a very LOOOONG but good post. Then Sparky and Phil make back and forth gay joke for a page or two.

That my friend is the pattern!!!!!
You got it right, but you left out the part of the pattern where Kimihiko makes a play for the girl...ha ha!

ciao,
Marc
