Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I see we are getting a basspro shop ,how often do you think you will shop there? I see a couple days for me in the year it is a hundred  mile drive but between cabals and Basspro it will be worth it. How do the rest of you guys feel about the  new store?

I am about halfway between both here in Seattle so I can really choose.  Bass Pro Shops I have to go through the city, but on the weekends that's usually not a problem if you follow game times.  I think Bass Pro Shops will be superior in their selection of things for bass fishing, but I can't say for sure until I see it!

I have a bad feeling that Bass Pro will go the same route as J.I. Joes, Big 5, and Cabelas.   Wasting most of thier attention on Crabbing, Salmon fishing, Fly fishing, and Gun sports.  Not to mention thier HUGE clothing line.  I'm surely gonna go there to buy some clothes, but most my fishing purchases will support local shops like Limit out, or Auburn Sports.  I own a small business, and I know how desparate you can get in the winter for work and sales.  These small businesses need us badly to survive November thru February.  Not to mention, Bass Pro (like Cabelas) will not likely support you local clubs for raffles and charity events.  I know that that Cabelas specifically had chosen to ignore charities like Cast for Kids in the past.  You also wont be seeing some of your small tackle companies represented on thier shelves.  I sure a few will get in there, but not on the level of selection that you see at Limit Out Marine or Wholesale Sports.

I remember thinking how awesome Cabelas was gonna be...let down!  It's great for re-loaders and Turkey fryers, but this we're Bass Fishermen.  I want quality BASS gear.  Local shops provide that.

Excellent point Russ!

Are we even sure it's coming? They said summer of 2014, but I haven't seen anything with regards to construction.

t least still have the notice up on thier website.  Says it will be on 72nd and I-5????  Not a clue where that is in Tacoma.  One other thing they'll be bringing us...SALES TAX!!!  I know it's not thier fault, but it's the main reason I quit buying online from Cabelas a few years ago when they moved here.

I agree totally Russ.  The move here hinders them a lot because if I don't like anything they have in store I wont be choosing them for online purchases anymore because of the sales tax. 3 Rivers is my store of choice whenever I need something that they carry and sometimes even when they don't have something I want they can order it for me! Now that is customer service.  Support the local shops guys they are the ones who are keeping our sport going right now in WA! Like I said in my last post it's going to be real interesting to see where Bass Pro puts their inventory. Will they emphasize Hunting, Salmon/Steelhead, or Bass and warm water fishing gear...? I for one will make a trip down to check it out soon after they open and if I am not impressed it will not be a place I frequent often.

Like most, I will visit the new store to check it out and may spend a few bucks here and there on things that my local tackle shop might not carry or be able to get but since I discovered Limit Out I have been spending my money there. Like others have stated, I am happy to support local small businesses. When I stop in at Limit Out I not only get tackle/supplies, I get a BUNCH of good advice free.

It is supposed to take over the Old Lowe's on Hosmer.

Bass Pro + Cabela's = boring/nothing unique

Local shops (bellingham/mt. vernon) = support the local guys (my preference)

Tackle Warehouse = internet heaven

Just another store.. Lets keep our money going to our friends.. And lets not forget to Thank our local shops for everything they do, and all the information they share.. Between Limit out marine, 3 rivers marine, and a few other local shops  we get way more than any chain could ever provide, for any kind of fishing.  Trust me If it swims  the guys at these shops can help you catch it...

It will be close to my house, can walk there. But mostly it will be a boost to the local job market. I will not change my spending habits because of it. I am to the point where I don't need much fishing tackle, win more then I can use in club/tournament/seminar raffles. What tackle I do want to upgrade is out of my price range. So what I do need will come from the favored prior mentioned local dealers first. I have never been in a Bass Pro Shops befor so it will be fun to sight see.

I really knew these were the answers I would hear,I will only buy certain things there, but I will never leave my favorite stores up here in the north end.Just  thought I would spark up a page for a day.Have a great holiday season.
