Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I know the first cast is the most important and needs to be the best cast you make.  I also know two keys to accomplish this is to understand boat position and casting angles.  I am curious what you guys think about boat position and casting angles.

My thoughts is that the cast angles and boat position is all directly related to how the fish are positioned... and what angle is best for an ambush or ease to catch the prey...
Some great questions Joel. I am curious to hear what some of these other guys think. I will answer in regards to this time of year which also relates pretty closely to fishing in the fall, more specifically when it comes to fishing football heads since I feel that is one of my strengths. I like to line up in the depth I feel the fish are sitting in and cast straight off the front of the boat, parallel the the shore or even cast out a little deeper. I feel this keeps my bait in the best range for where the fish are and allows me to maintain bottom contact throughout my entire cast. Most of the time I like to reel about as fast as I can while still maintaining bottom contact with a 1/2, 3/4 or 1oz football head. Alot of times by doing this you can cover a particular spot in 4-6 casts. If you don't get bit and you are on the good stuff it's time to go to the next spot IMO. Best of luck!
When fishing dropoffs I agre with Jordan. I'll fish not quite parallel to the shoreline, the only difference is I'll fish down the dropoff not up it. At least until I don't get bit, I will switch to fishing up the slope if I know there are fish.
For wood I will fish the outside first and just work my way into the middle of whatever it is. Docks are not my forte as I am a lousy skipper. Hope this helps someone as it works for me at least part of the time LOL.
Take care all hope meet those of you I don"t know someday.
I have heard BBZ talk about fishing "UP HILL". I haven’t tried this a ton but he does it by positioning his boat in shallow water and works his bait up hill instead. He says it gives the fish a different look at baits because most fisherman fish downhill or parallel. Just a thought
