Does customizing our baits actually make a REAL difference, or is it all in our heads? How many of you guys tweak what you throw so that it is "different" than what came out of the box? Does customization make us better fisherman?

I think it can help us become better fisherman. i customize my spinner baits an di do think it makes a difference, and isn't that how most baits got going. someone saw a bait they liked and made it different and a new bait was formed.
Ben ,

I havent met a pro bass fisherman that will use most baits right out the package. Im mainly talking about hard baits . One of the most popular modifications are the hooks IMO . I during the spring period i will replace one of my trouble hooks with red color . In my mind im wanting to create a target area that will result in a better hook up . Plastics , lol as a matter of fact my #1 drop shot bait is actually a plastic that i slice in half and used for a dropshoting .Buzz baits with holes drilled threw the blades to create a different sound and more action also . so to answer your question do i think that making these modifications makes me a better angler , to a certain degree . But i feel very confident in saying that customization has made a big difference in the outcome of many days on the lake , and all the people in my head tend to agree also..lol

Hardware-wise, definitely (as in upgrading stock hooks, rings, maybe adding a ring to the line tie, etc).
I take the hooks off so i dont come home smelling like fish. That way my wife doesnt get jealous
Customizing your bait can be a big deal if it gives you the confidence to fish a little harder. When I customize one of my baits, I think it will catch more fish…… and I don’t know about you, but that makes me happy :)
I customize just about everything I fish with except my dropshot QuickDrops weights...oh yea, guess I customized them to when I designed them.

Whether customizing works because it gives you more confidence, or because it presents a different look, doesn't matter. What matters is that it does work.

ciao,
Marc

Jon,

Those triple trout are sick! Who do you have do those?
I'm impressed, Jon. Definitely worth the wait!
That perch pattern sure looks good!
Man those do look awesome! If any of you guys have tackle building gear that just sits on your shelf I'm looking to start making my own stuff so if you got building or painting materials your looking to get rid of let me know.
PS- Jon
Where can I get that perch Sebile, so sick!
