Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

On my other forum that I attend, a member posted a rather interesting thread. 10 pound plus fish! Who has caught one? What did the monster fall to? Why do these fish seem to be more intelligent and harder to catch? Lets see some pics of fish near ten pounds or over ten pounds and the insite on what the angler thinks about how to catch these monsters.

10 lb even Largemouth on a Shad Rap. Back in May of '94 on a small local lake. No picture as I didn't carry a camera in the boat back then. Same section of the same lake I caught a 6.4 lb Largemouth Aug 27th this past year. Also on a crankbait altho a Bomber.
10 lber from Sawyer huh? Nice fish, wish you had of pic of that one.
Ya, me too. Fought real good as was a fresh from deep water fishie. 10 lb Stren next to the weed line, as much as there was in May. Luckily she went for deep water. That spot was/is known as a big fish spot, but not as many big fish in that spot the past few years.
Fished a small local lake about two years ago and caught an 8-14 Largie in about two feetof water in May. This fish was not on a bed in fact she was about 8 - 10 feet away from it. I threw to her about 20 times and she just didnt want it. So I said one more time. I threw a brush hog to her and left it in front of her for atleast 5 minutes. I backed away from her where I couldnt see her any longer and then my line started to move sideways.

I have found that with many fish over 5 + lbs that if you see them and they act 1/2 way interested just leave your bait in front of them and backway off.
Anybody have any swimbait stories with big fish?
I've never used a swim bait. Somebody will have to loan me one.....so I can lose it. :-)
I 'swim' crankbaits all the time. I use them way too often these days. I need to get back to soft plastics.

The irony is that a lot of the anglers that throw plastics almost exclusively will say that they need to get back to throwing crankbaits.

Well I use to be more balanced, but stuck with spinnerbaits, then crankbaits. So lost my balance and need to get back to more of the way I use to be.

Hey, Big Mike. The point I was trying to make is that reaction baits like crankbaits often get a higher percentage of quality bites than standard sized soft plastics. Since soft plastics tend to be a better option for numbers, some anglers will rarely throw their hard baits. I have heard several die hard plastics guys eventually come to the realization that they are probably missing out on some bigger bites by not incorporating hard baits into their arsenal more often.

Now I will be quiet, sir.

I think thats just Mikes way of saying dont let the cat out the bag taggy !! lol I used to try my best to keeping my cranking under my hat , But WHY ! Its no real secret anymore ..lol But yes everything you mentioned is very much true. One thing that i try not to ever do with this sport is getting to comfortable with one bait period ! Now once i get versed in jig'n im gonna need you to remind me of what i just typed !! lol Mike ,if tag stops talking "we all suffer" ..keep it real!!
