Dropshoting question. Live bait (worm) vs artificial?
I'm being out fished by my 13 year old son. I've been throwing all kind of artificial (panic minnow, sniper bolts, roboworms etc. etc. etc.) baits and I've been getting killed by a kid fishing for perch with a meal worm from Petco. He's catching 3-4 smallies to my one and he gets perch to boot. Smallmouth are hard to figure out sometimes.

Live bait is certainly hard to beat. It may not be something that you are doing wrong as much as that your son's using the meal worms. Play with the retrieve and lighten up your line to see if that helps even the ratio a bit.

When I take seniors fishing and I'm not setting them up with a float, I set them up with a drop shot and use live worms as bait. We all know the effectiveness of using live bait and the drop shot rig, so naturally the combination of both ought to be productive too.
