Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Just touched down in Seattle after 10 days on the road traveling for business.  Flew out last Monday, had meetings with Cabela's Corporate in Sidney, Nebraska last Tuesday and Wednesday, and have been working the State of Michigan for the past week.  My 7 year old daughter, Kylie, kept telling me before I left on this trip how excited she was about the Father's Day present she was making me.  Since I was going to be out of State during Father's Day, she was going to surprise me upon my return.  However, I got a little preview today via text message.

Apparently she bought a book recently on making fishing lures to give her some ideas.  My wife helped her a little with the skill saw - cutting the wood, but she sanded it all by herself, tested the action in the bathtub to get it running how she wanted, painted it, glued the eyes on, installed the hook hangers, made the spinner wire, etc.  I may have to change out the makeshift wire split rings to real split rings, but she had the right idea. :)  She just couldn't figure out how to use the split ring pliers that she's seen me use.  Owner Hyperwires can be a chore for an adult!

I wanted to share this picture and story because I thought it was pretty darn cute.  She let me know that it's supposed to be a "rainbow trout chasing a dragonfly".  Aren't kids the best?

You have a good daughter Tag! I've been blessed with 3 of them, and I feel very fortunate, and grateful! My oldest is 6, and she wrote a book about me for fathers day. In it, she describes me as being very good at laundry, loving to drink beer, and 130 years old amongst many other things. It was priceless, and a very special gift. Kids really are the greatest!

Very creative! There isn't a doubt in my mind that your daughter will continue to put her creativity to good use when she grows up. Very cool!

Looks like a kokanee pattern for some offshore smallmouth. I'd like to see a picture of a 5lber within a few days of your return! Then shortly after a bait company will pick it up and they'll be manufacturing "KW" swimmers.

Now we know what you've really been using:-)

That's really cool. Kids can be so awesome. I got my 4 year out on the boat for the first time last weekend. He caught a 13 inch smallie and to him it was a giant. And the memory for me was giant. Looks like she put a lot of time and thought into the bait too.

Awesome! Amazing how much thought and time your daughter put into the process, she must be brilliant like her mother! Kids just straight up amaze me!! Have fun
....

What a special Father's Day gift Tag!  If you fish this make sure its on 120lb. test!!!

Thank you very much for all the fun replies and good laughs!  In addition to being excellent anglers, you guys are seriously hilarious.

Chad, that book sounds hysterical!  Beer can't be that bad for you if you're already 1/3 of the way through your second century.  No wonder you have laundry mastered by now!

Ron, you are dead on.  Fortunately for Kylie, she has her mom's smarts and looks.

Rob, that's too cool!  Smallies are such a fun, sporty fish for kids and adults alike.  Great memories.

Bruce, I'll be sure to use some strong line and tie a good knot!

Have a great weekend, all!

Talented and great kid you got there. Your one lucky father.
