Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I have always had a fondness for Lake Washington. Even though it can be frustrating this time of year I have spent more time there than anywhere else. It is so big and there are so many ways to catch them, so many areas to figure out, (and the tournament factor)that I just can't pry myself away to go elsewhere very often.

What's your favorite lake and why?

I have 2 and I don't mind giving them up. Long Lake in Port Orchard and Bay Lake in Pierce Co on the Key Peninsula. Neither is real big but have good populations of quality bass. I have caught more 5-7 lb fish from both, that I can't count em. (I never said that) Both are shallow and weedy later in the year tho Long has been treated for weeds. I love throwing frogs in these lakes when it warms. I like Tapps too for smallies...not to mention the prospect of a Tiger Muskie. Being stuck in the float tube limits me obviously...but I still go on the big water. I want to try Washington this year.
I would also have to say that columbia river wallula pool is my favorite as it is my home body of water. There is so many different patterns and it can be an world class smallmouth fishery at times. There is nothing better than catching those strong river smallies.
I am with Jon and Damon on this one. Columbia all the way! There are so many different ways to pattern fish there, so many areas that can be good on a given day, so much water to explore, beautiful scenery, awesome weather...well besides the wind!! Good populations of smallies and largies. Good maps that make finding fish easier. I love how you can get away from everything else out there too. I am more of a fan of the rural feel when I am fishing than fishing highly developed bodies of water. Although sometimes seeing the big homes on places like Washington can be fun, for me its all about being out there with just myself, a friend or relative, the elements, the water, and the fish. There is nothing else quite like the Columbia River!
Lake Whatcom is growing on me very quickly too though, never seen a lake with so many 4 lb. + smallies!
I like all lakes were I have a chance of catching a good one or numbers of good ones. Largies even better, If I can use a jig, spinnerbait, swimbait, or basically don't have to have a spinning rod on my deck to catch them. I like the challenge of playing tug of war with the fish to see who's stronger.

In this state my top two would be #1 Potholes #2 Moses or a shelton area lake (oops forgot the name) I am sure there are some that are better but no one has told me about them so that I can fish them myself.

Pulling fish out of thick brush along with the endless supply of bushes gives you more of a challenge and that is why Potholes makes #1 with me. It might not be the one I feel most comfortable fishing tournaments on but it sure is fun, and a challenge.
"or a shelton area lake (oops forgot the name)"

HMMMMM
1. Banks just for the plain ole fact of I love going there. Fishing is always good, numbers are freaking insane and size can be good if you know where to fish. Great place to hang out with friends and family too.
2. Potholes, for basically same reasons Ron stated. I hated Potholes for years but about 5 years ago I finally spent a bunch of time and figured it out. Now it is fun and I always look forward to going there.
3. A few small lakes around my area. We have got multi fish over 7,8 and one 9.5 and one 10.5. We never fished it last year so this should be a good year. I only fish these for a short time and when I have time to play.

My favorite lake is the one I'm fishing on! I just love them all, and wish I could fish them all. Washington has so many different lakes that we have no shortage of adventure.

But if you pinned me down to a single system...I am going with the Columbia. It has the variety of structure and cover, variety of fish, variety of techniques work here, it has large smallies and large green bass, ability to fish in most any weather if you put in at the right location, etc.

ciao,
Marc
Like many of you, I have fished aorund the state, but I've got to go with Eric for this one and pick WaWa. Alot of variety in techniques you can use to catch them, lots of water to discover, good sized brown and green. Plus it's in my back yard.

Potholes would be a close second for the same reasons, plus a killer topwater bite!
Lake Goodwin in April
Lake Washington in May
Lake Chelan in Summer
Lake Wallula in September
Potholes in October
Banks in November
Lake Washington December-March
Overall #1 would have to be Washington
I would say living on the east side, I love to fish Chelan and Banks. Both are fun to me, especially Chelan because of how clear the water is. I have just got back into to bass fishing regularly in the past couple years, so I haven't spent a lot of time on Potholes or Moses yet but I think both are going to be awesome. I plan to head down to Potholes next weekend and start to try and figure that place out.
I don't have a single favorite lake but my favorite types of fisheries are those with quality largemouth and off colored water. Nothing makes me happier than throwing big wake baits and buzzbaits, flipping heavy cover, punching thick vegetation, deflecting a shallow crankbait off of submerged cover, slow rolling spinnerbaits with oversized blades, ripping lipless cranks through grass, walking a frog through the salad. I need to take a trip to the Delta some day.......
Tough to say, if I’m on a lake fishing its usually my favorite! But if I had to pick I'd say...
Lake Terrell and Whatcom in the spring
Lake Roosevelt and Twin Lakes in the summer
