Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Just got back from the FLW College Fishing Series on Lake Shasta, CA. Had an AWESOME time in the first tournament of the year.

My partner Dan Rice & I weighed in a solid 5-11 limit which put us in 6th place at the end of the day, which ended up being 2 ozs. from qualifying from regionals and $2,000 for the EWU Fishing Club. I felt we did great considering it was the first time ever being on Shasta and it was Dan's first tournament period.

We caught our fish drop shotting Yamamoto Kut Tails in 30-50 feet of water, and caught my first fish directly off the graph before, that was pretty cool. I had to use a heavier than usual Quickdrops dropshot sinker for fishing that deep as it was also a first for me really, never got above 3/8 oz. though.

Had a heck of a time out with the Washington guys the night before including Ron, Jim, Sean, Jon. Thank You guys for a good time and help on grasping the tough-bite dink-hole called "Lake Shasta". Along with Marc and other Washington guys who helped us along with way.

Great job also to the Washington State teams of Brent & Trevor, and James & Zack Schaff! Washington had 3 total teams out of the 40 that were fishing. It was the toughest biting tournament I've ever been apart of. It was a GREAT Experience and looking forward to Lake Roosevelt, AZ.

Look out for the EWU Fishing Club gear auction fundraiser coming soon!

Nice summary Nick. The tournament was brutally tough, and I found it really frustrating to be staring at hordes of spots on the depth finder and not get bit, but it was a learning experience for sure. Let me know if youre gonna make the trek to Roosevelt. I'll be there, and I've actually fished this one before. Pretty excited about that.

Dang Nick. I was telling Dan... watching the weigh-in got a bit frustrating. You guys weighed-in and were in 5th place but then dropped to 6th. To see it end like that... Well, you guys definitely did the school proud and will no doubt put up a good showing at Lake Roosevelt, AZ. You had a good strategy for Shasta and were very close.

Peace out friend,

Don

Thanks Guys!! Its awesome to know the WA fishing community is keeping an eye on the college program, I was really amazed by it, its an awesome program.

Yeah Don, but thats the game man, just gotta keep on chuggin. Can't wait for Roosevelt! Zack, I will be down there if I can swing it, need to do some more fundraising around campus..haha

Broberg, Minderman, Hobbs, and Sessler, Walker will be down at Roosevelt before you guys get there.  I will have about 6 days of prefish before our tourney and then 2 or 3 days of a tourney, We are staying in Roosevelt at Spring Creek, any of the Washington teams should stop by I am sure we could get you guys onto something worthwhile.  Zach is this your last year for college fishing??  Make sure you look us up.
