Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

When given the choice, which species would you rather fish for? I do enjoy catching both, but I find that I'm much more passionate about hunting largemouth. Smallmouth can be a lot of fun, especially on certain techniques, but most of the time I just fish for them out of necessity. I know I should probably spend more time targeting and learning smallmouth in case I get an opportunity to compete on a circuit like Northwest Bass in the future. With my limited fishing time, however, I have a hard time staying away from the largemouth. Just curious what your guys' preference is?

Hey Tag, where do I apply to be the camera man on your boat?! :)
Tag, where do you find those "windows" I need to get a couple...everytime I open one it slams on my fingers.
It's too bad you don't get to fish very often...your back couldn't handle too many more of those!
Keep up the great work, it gives me something to strive for, one 2 pounder at a time....

In my opinion, nothing beats pre-spawn largemouth when they decide to turn on. This afternoon I encountered a 2 hour window where the jig bite turned red hot. The best 5 were around 36 lbs. and the big fish was a 10 pounder. I caught a few on the 1/2 oz. Pig Jig and then worked back through the key stretch of water with a smaller profile jig to pick up some additional fish.

Now that's why I chose largies, they are prettier! No but when the way you fish for them dictates a one on one tug ' war match, no drag, I HOPE I DON'T LOSE MY ROD!

Someday I might catch some hawgs like tag! Green for me!
I love the smallies the way they fight. I also love flipping and pitching for pre spawn largies. I would say I prefer to fish for whichever I am targeting at that time. If I had a choice though to hook a 5lb largie in the trees or a 5lb smallie in open water, I would prefer the smallie.

Oh yeah, and nice fish Tag. Wish I was there.
I would have to say a state record Dez, and it will be caught in the next 2 years...
