Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I know spring is a long way off!  But man I cant wait till March to start for fishing for those big green girls!!

In the past i have spend most of my time targeting smallies in the spring.  This year I'm going to switch it up and spend more time fishing for largies on smaller lakes.  I know there are a lot of really good bass fishermen out there who spend a ton of time on our local lakes in the early spring targeting the green ones(Tag, Blandi, Floyd, Berto,Gayton, Nielson, Robert, Tito,Chris Carpenter, etc).

Cant we start a discussion on our approach to fishing our local lakes that time of year?

I have had very little time on the water in the early spring...so the little success Ive had has been on Terell ... I was targeting emerging Pads, reeds, and any wood with senkos and jigs.

What do you guys think? How about spinnerbaits, Traps, Swimbaits?

How about Spears, Electro shock, or a well thought out trap?

"A ton of time"?  My first largemouth outing was May 8th this year.....My approach for 2013 is to make it out before May 8th!  I will fish whatever the conditions dictate.

Spinnerbaits, traps and swimbaits are definitely great choices for Spring.

I did not fish for Greenies this year before June I think... I am hoping to try and get out and fun fish more this spring. When I have fished for early season Largies it has mostly come at Potholes and the surrounding seep lakes.  I look for the warmest water and that is usually at the back of the skinny creek arms or back bays.  It seems if you get your bait in or around whatever cover is present in those arms with warmer water you can get bit pretty well.  I have had almost all of my success on a 1/2 jig with a bulky trailer at least like a Sweet Beaver sized piece of plastic.  Big tubes have also put good fish in my boat too.  Depending on wind and weather conditions I have also had some knock out days on a spinnerbait.

In addition, I personally don't leave home with out a few shallow diving/ squarebill cranks! The action of a square-bill looks a little too erratic for the colder water temps but they've produced some good ones for me all over the country, Washington State (esp. King Co. waters) included. Like spinnerbaits, crash em into wood and don't forget a bait knocker. Just my 2 cents. I can't wait to throw big swimbaits this spring!

Big, bulky jigs are my favorite early Spring bait.

I try and start in feb. if the weather permits. Look for swimbait rods and Flippin sticks in my boat, love to power fish!

Imagine that Tag! haha

I am finally going back to school this winter/spring, I won't get too much time on the water.

The thing I'm excited about is that I'll be up in the north end so I'll get to explore new waters.

I'm pretty excited to throw as many baits as I can this coming spring, I caught both green and brown on a bunch of new baits last spring and hope to do it again this year!

I have the rattle trap and spinner bait glued to my hand now ever since last year
