Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Stuart Squires sent me this Sunday while he was out on Lake Washington in Newport Shores. Right after he and his wife posed in front of the sign, the homeowner came out and expressed her case in a not so polite way for the no fishing sign. According to her, all of the residents in Newport are against people fishing in there. Of course Stuart kept his cool, kindly stating she does not own the water he is fishing in as per the norm. I have a hard time believing that all of the residents in there are against fishing, after the reception they had for the NWB tournament there last year with signs, and refreshments for anglers. Wondering if anyone else saw this, and what your thoughts are.

Personally, not my favorite place to fish but something may need to be done about this...

So here's a couple of questions I have. 1) When the land owners put cables or log booms up all along their property out at dock length, totally blocking access to the water behind it - is that legal? ( kind of creating their own swim beach the length of their property) 2) Fishing in marinas - same as fishing around any other dock?
There's a club tourny out there this weekend. Maybe we could get every boat in the tourny in front of the sign for a pic? and everyone can cast by the dock/lift
We do not negotiate with terrorist , Enter at your own risk !! lol

Follow up on this story. I talked to Stuart tonight and he called the sheriff's office to get things cleared up. He spoke with the sheriff today who told Stuart that he was going to pay them a visit. We'll see how this pans out.

Something needs to happen since little does the homeowner know that the fun has just begun with fishermen in the canal. It is a tenth of what it will be in a couple of weeks.
I wanted to let everyone know this update: I called the Mill Creek Game Department office. I was told that it is fully legal to fish in Newport Shores and that I was not in violation of any regulation. There has been no emergency closure of Newport Shores. This woman passed me onto the Game Department's Sheriff. The Sheriff said if there is a sign posted--it has been placed there illegally. He said that he may pay this homeowner a visit. He was great to talk to and very helpful.
I agree with what everyone has been saying. We need to be classy and respectful and represent our sport well. However, we also need to stand up for our rights, fish where it is legal to do so, and make certain that our rights are not taken away.

That is great work on your part. Thanks for the effort.
You da man Stu!

Still wondering if anyone has any info on the legality of this? ( see my earlier post below)

Hi Eric, The rules are pretty simple. If it is not defined in the rules pamphlet by the wdfw. as closed waters or designated swim area by the county or state or housing athority  It is legal water to fish.. refer to the Rcw code 77.15.210.  The obstructing of the lawful taking of fish, shellfish, and wild game.. Honestly I usually pass by a boomed off area  at a home but it only takes up  150 to 200 ft.   as for marinas I fish em posted or not generally I get no problems but have and I gladly will call the sheriff first..
