Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I came out here from Texas, where we have a lot of offshore structure. I just purchased a HDS10 gen 2 for my skeeter and was wondering how everyone else out here uses their sidescan as far as fishing. I live on the eastside and I have been told this first year I have fished out here so far that majority of the fish remain shallow during the season as there isn't any deep offshore structure for the fish to relate to... I know we don't have shad or hitch but wouldn't the bass be following some type of baitfish offshore.  I love fishing deep cranks and football heads for deep fish.

thank you .

There's much more to this question than I can address.  But, if no off shore structure I would look for contour changes.  One day quality fish may be shallow and the following day they may be off shore and only the rats stayed shallow.

Don't know who told you that, but "shallow" and "deep" are pretty relative terms and don't always go with "offshore"

Plenty of offshore structure and cover. When you are talking about the eastside, you are talking about fishing areas that didn't used to have water on them, so there is all sorts of stuff (roadbeds, culverts, foundations, pipelines, canals, dikes, wing dams, etc.) out there. Plus you've got the structure that formed the original river channels.

We also have baitfish (including American Shad) that will be offshore.

Kevin , have you fished on banks lake or the columbia river during the summer yet ?

Right on the money.  A lot of our lakes here in the East are reservoirs filling in old coulees and creek channels.  There are points, channel edges, ledges, roads, foundations, etc. under there just waiting to be found.  A lot of fish will relate to visible or "shallow" cover like beaver dams, but humps and points play a big role too.  The one thing with some of these lakes is lack of Oxygen content in the "deep" portions, but there is fishing to be done.  The Columbia is another spot where fish will be found all over the board.  I've just started to crack into the offshore prospects our reservoirs have.  My favorite technique is dragging and hopping footballs on steep rocky shoreline or cranking it.

Whoever told you that bit of information must not want you to beat them in future tournaments.  This is the west coast.  Offshore structure is very important to fishing success, especially all times outside the spawn.  You will be able to fish offshore structure to your heart's content.  Right now you can come west and catch smallmouth bass from 45 to 65 feet deep...that should satisfy any deep offshore structure need.

I haven't had a chance  to fish those areas yet.. Looking fwd to it this year...

Something tells me that your informant was referring to moses and potholes, due to their overall lack of depth. But yeah.... Whoever told you these lies should be shamed and discredited for eternity.

LMFAO :)

Yea i was kinda thinking to myself after reading your thread "no way this guy has fished banks or the river with these kind of questions "  lol  Trust me Kevin , after a full season of exploring lakes like banks and the river your new unit should be fill up with new weypoints from marking tons of offshore structure .

Phase II : Carmera Work in conjuntion with Sonar ;)

I catch fish on off-shore structure at Moses all the time. Off shore structure and deep water aren't always synonymous.
